Smell prompts evacuation at Hixson Pike hotel

A strange smell at the Comfort Inn on Hixson Pike forced an evacuation and a police investigation this evening.

Sgt. Jerri Weary, Chattanooga police spokeswoman, said the smell was detected while police were investigating a disorder there. Police and firefighters investigated.

About 10:45 p.m., police had not detected the source, and the hotel remained evacuated, Sgt. Weary said in a statement.
