Boy, 15, arrested in death of cab driver

Chattanooga police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the Sunday death of a Chattanooga cab driver.

James Lee Fleming was killed during a robbery gone bad, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said. Investigators allege the shooter called for the cab, had Mr. Fleming drive him to his destination and then ordered Mr. Fleming’s teenage niece from the car and tried to rob Mr. Fleming.

When Mr. Fleming refused to comply, the shooter fired twice and Mr. Fleming’s cab crashed into a parked car and then a home’s garage. Police arrived to find Mr. Fleming fatally wounded.

The suspect is not identified here in accordance with Times Free Press policy on identifying juvenile suspects. Police had questioned a 17-year-old a day earlier, but Sgt. Weary said that was not the same boy.
