Leslie Bell, a mountain resident, said she organized the event as a chance to pause and reflect on those who have died or been injured during the conflict.
“We’re five years into this war, and we’ve lost 4,000 soldiers and who knows how many Iraqis. Thirty-thousand troops have been badly injured,” Ms. Bell said. “I think now is the time to stand quietly and remember them and think about this war.”
The event starts at 7:45 p.m. at the park in front of the Signal Mountain town pool at 1111 Ridgeway Ave. The vigil is expected to last about an hour.
