Riverbend signs closing act

Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, two of the great voices in rock ’n’ roll, will share the Coca-Cola Stage at Riverbend on closing night, according to Sallie Beckes, marketing and public relations coordinator.

Also announced are Galactic and The Greencards. Bachman-Cummings will perform on June 14, as will Galactic, who will perform their brand of New Orleans funk and hiphop on the Bud Light Stage. The Greencards, an acoustic act that has toured with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, will perform on the Tennessee Valley Credit Union Stage on June 13.

Mr. Bachman is perhaps best known for his work with Bachman-Turner Overdrive and such songs as “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” “Takin’ Care of Business” and “Let It Ride.”

Mr. Cummings was the voice of The Guess Who on such hits as “These Eyes,” “American Woman,” “She’s Come Undun” and “No Sugar Tonight.”

“We think they will be a great act for closing night,” said talent and production coordinator Joe “Dixie” Fuller. “They are two of the best voices in rock, and it will be a night of hit after hit songs.”

Previously announced Riverbend artists include ZZ Top, The Black Crowes, Josh Turner, Little Big Town, Rodney Atkins, Anthony Hamilton, America with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera, Mercy Me, The Ohio Players, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, Joe Bonamassa, Railroad Earth and David Bromberg.

Reserved Star Seating tickets are available for most Coca-Cola Stage artists by calling 756-2211.

Riverbend 2008 is scheduled for June 6-14, and advance discounted pins go on sale April 28 at area Mapco locations. Pins also are available at “Click ‘n’ Print” on the festival Web site at www.riverbendfestival.com.
