DALTON, Ga. — Nearly 2,550 from Dalton and the surrounding areas participated in the Stations of the Cross on this afternoon.
The annual event started about 2:30 p.m. on the steps of St. Joseph Catholic Church and covered the 14 stations recalling Jesus’ travails on Good Friday. The crowds walked about a mile before returning to the church for the enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus, who was played by Gabriel Mejia.
The event has grown tenfold in the past six or seven years, according to Paul Zock, a Rocky Face, Ga., resident who came with his four children.
The event has become bigger as more Hispanics have moved to the area, but there also were dozens of non-Hispanics in attendance.
