March through downtown marks Iraq war anniversary

About 100 protesters marched through downtown Chattanooga today to mark the five-year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.

Protesters met in Coolidge Park, walked across Walnut Street Bridge and then south along Market Street. They carried signs stating “End the Iraq War Now,” and chanted “George Bush, Uncle Sam, this will be your Vietnam!”

Terry Stulce, protest organizer and a 2006 Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, said the turnout was disappointing. Many organizers said they expected 300 to 400 people to attend the event.

“We may be small in number, but it is so important to keep a presence and a witness,” said Kate Stulce, Mr. Stulce’s wife.
