GOP sheriff candidates will not run as independents

by Matt Wilson

Each of the five Hamilton County Republican Party candidates for sheriff said Monday night that he would not run as an independent if he does not win his party’s nomination.

Jim Winters, who sought but did not receive the Democratic nomination for sheriff, announced last week that he would run as an independent.

The five Republican candidates spoke at a forum at Westview Elementary School on Monday. Each listed restoring pubic trust in the sheriff’s department and the school resource officer program as priorities.

The Hamilton County GOP will select its nominee for sheriff Thursday night.

My vote goes to Jim Winters. He is the only candiate willing to run as an Independent. The other five Republican candiates are not willing to run as Independents; they are not willing to sacrifice their own time, money or resources to obtain the sheriff's position. So that tells me they truly don't want to work to be elected to the position of sheriff. Had Mr. Beck not won his parties nomination he would not be running for sheriff either.
I am tired of the Democratic and Republican parties. We need to elect someone who has not been corrupted by either party. The working man needs to stand up and elect Mr. Winters, an honest, hard working, qualitified candiate for sheriff of Hamilton County.
