Jury selection wrapped up today and the trial began for a Dayton, Tenn., man charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence by consent.
Bachar Martin was a passenger in his own car when his friend Jeremiah Mann drove it into another vehicle, killing a man, according to police. Both Mr. Mann and Mr. Martin were drunk, and the state is charging that Mr. Martin facilitated the homicide because he owned the car, authorities said.
Mr. Mann’s trial is pending until this case is resolved.
The Hamilton County Criminal Court trial is expected to conclude Wednesday in Judge Rebecca Stern’s courtroom.

Ms. Mercer: Drunk is a strong word without substantiating facts. I think if you really looked into this story you'd find some interesting facts. a. Had the accident occured 1 month earlier, they would not have been classified as "drunk". b. Why is Mr. Mann's trial pending? Because the DA wants to use him against Mr. Martin. If Mr. Mann performs like a good boy , he'll get favors. c. Why is the DA so hot for Mr. Martin, who wasnt' driving? d. The man who died was the father-in-law of a policeman in Rhea County. e. A rental home in Rhea Co. owned by Mr. Martin's family coincidentally burned following the accident. f. Mr. Mann was pulled over by a police car in Rhea Co. on a deserted mountain road where he was approached and threatened by the policeman who lost his father-in-law. I'm sure there's no record of that!?!?!?!? g. When did this accident occur? Why has it taken so long to get to trial? h. There was a third passenger in the car, where is he? Why isn't he testifying?
What kind of twisted games are being played by the DA? What political connections can be made with the players? If you tried, there might be a real story here. No one can be more remorseful then Mr. Martin. He would never intentionally hurt anyone. Bad choices were made and a terrible ACCIDENT occured. The boys were more tired then "drunk". They had worked overnight shifts at their jobs before going to lunch. Mr. Martin lost his own mother in a car accident, he is suffering knowing this same pain has befallen another family.
The DA is after Mr. Martin becasue he was the DD for a number of people that. If he would have kept his word and stayed sober Mr. Mann would have never got behind the wheel and the accident would not have happened. thats why.
