Man charged with felony car theft

Chattanooga police arrested a man early this morning in connection with a vehicle reported stolen earlier this month.

Donyell Dewayne Holland of West 38th Street was charged with felony evading and felony theft after a car chase this morning, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Kim Noorbergen said in a news release.

On March 16, a Ford F-150 pickup reportedly was carjacked from a person at La Macarena on East 24th Street Place. A patrol officer spotted the vehicle shortly after midnight today and gave chase on Interstate 24 East to the Browns Ferry Road exit. Officers exited, and the driver of the truck got back on the interstate, crossed over into oncoming traffic and continued to the Rossville Boulevard exit, where he tried to ram several police cars, Lt. Noorbergen said.

Officers attempted several times to halt the truck with stop sticks, but the truck’s driver maneuvered around them.

The driver finally was stopped at 42nd and Fagan streets in the Alton Park area, where he ran from the vehicle, according to police. After a short foot chase, Mr. Holland was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
