Emma Adkins
Emma Howard Adkins, 91, of Chattanooga, departed this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was an employee of the state of Tennessee at Moccasin Bend Hospital for 25 years. Ms. Adkins was a member of Middle Valley Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Howard; son, Phillip L. Howard; father, Hearley Taylor; mother, Allie Mae Donaldson Taylor; brothers, Royce Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Leon Taylor; sisters, Lola Vaughn, Susie Young and Althea Nida.
She is survived by her son, David G. (Rose) Howard; grandsons, Jeff (Kim) Howard, Tony (Tami) Howard; four great-grandchildren, brothers, Harvell Taylor, Wiley Taylor; a dear friend and neighbor, Bill Perrin; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Minister John Cupp officiating.
Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Jennifer Lynn Burks, 35, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in a local hospital.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Jennifer was a student at the Orange Grove Center.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Burks; and her grandmother Della Clabo.
Survivors include her father, Charles W. Burks Sr.; sister, Paula Marie Burks; brother, Charles W. Burks Jr.; grandfather, Herbert Clabo; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Helen Chandler
Helen Lucile Chandler, 63, of East Ridge, died Monday March 24, 2008, at her home after an extended illness.
She was born June 3, 1944, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Jack and Mary Chandler. Her father was a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge they returned to Chattanooga.
Helen attended Margaret Wilson School, Edmonson Jr. High, Chattanooga High School and McKenzie Business School. She worked for Provident and Wal-Mart.
Preceding her in death are her grandparents, John and Lola Cross Chandler, W.L. Ball and her very special grandmother, Lucy Tudor Ball; her father, Jack William Chandler; and brother, Jack William Chandler Jr.
Helen is survived by her loving mother, Mary Ball Chandler, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two daughters, Janet Lynn Allen and her husband, Tim, and Annette Lee Gray, all of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Brandon and Kymberly Generazio-Allen, Hailey and Jared Gray; sister, Susan (Bob) Card, of Cleveland, and Jim (Leslie) Chandler, of Chattanooga.
Graveside services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Forest Hills Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Carole Louise Dodd, 69, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with her Lord and family on Monday night, March 24, 2008, at her home with her daughter, Sharon, and special grandson, Jeremy, by her side.
She was born July 25, 1938, to the late Andrew and Susie Conner. Louise was married to Clinton Dodd for 54 years and had a passion for helping others. She had her grandson, Jeremy, near her for all his life. Her kindness and love will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Clinton, just seven months ago; baby daughter, Judith Ann; brothers, Jack, Roy, Bill and Beecher Conner; sisters, Ola Cox and Rahe Dean Smith.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tony Cardenas, of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Jeremy and Timothy Gamble and Cody Cardenas; brother, Oscar (Dot) Conner, of Hixson; three great-grandchildren; special niece and her family, Pattie (Herbert) Brown, Susan, Ginger, Michael, Kaylee and Ethan.

Dr. Grace Hewell
Dr. Grace L. Hewell, 89, of Chattanooga, departed this life peacefully Friday, March 7, 2008, at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., after a brief illness.
A native of Chattanooga, Dr. Hewell's early educational background included attendance at Spelman College and Atlanta University. She later received degrees from Columbia University School of Public Health and Columbia University Teachers College. She also served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
Survivors include cousins, godchildren and a wealth of colleagues and friends.
Dr. Hewell was a member and active participant in numerous associations and organizations.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 17, 2008, at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home Chapel, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Md. The Omega Omega service was conducted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

William McDaris Jr.
William L. "Bill" McDaris Jr., of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, March 23, 2008. He was 83 years of age.
Bill was a lifelong member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. He was retired as manager of transportation for the Hamilton County Department of Education. He was past president of the Tennessee Association of Pupil Transportation and had been employed in the Tennessee motor freight industry for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in both Europe and the Phillipines. He retired from Tennessee Defense Forces with rank of lieutenant colonel.
Mr. McDaris is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bettye Jean Fields McDaris; three daughters, Sharon McDaris (Tom) Lewis, of Chattanooga, Debbie McDaris (K.C.) Roberson, of St. Joseph, Tenn, and Susan McDaris (Rick) Durand, of Decatur, Tenn.; one son, Michael McDaris (Linda) of Ringgold, Ga. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, Heather Lewis Carter, Katie Lewis Rutledge, Robert McDaris, Lisa McDaris Dalton, James Kilbourne, Lauren Durand Haun, Russell Durand, Rebecca Roberson, Christopher Roberson, Nicholas Roberson and Catherine Roberson; and one great-grandchild, Carter Haun.

Milada Potucek was an active member of Soddy-Daisy congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, John; daughters, Patricia (Jack) Lane and Frances (John) Sandford. She also has one granddaughter, Eleanor Sandford; and her brother, Charles Henderson.

FLINTSTONE -- Floyd Guffey, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter morning, Sunday, March 23, 2008.
He was born in Walker County to the late William Estel and Alice Moore Guffey. He was a lifelong resident of Walker County. He was the former choir director for 41 years for the following Baptist churches Robertsville, Old Bethel and Liberty, all in Chickamauga, Memorial, James Street and New Hope, all in Rossville and Mount Vernon in Tunnel Hill, Ga. He had also led the singing for several tent revivals in north Georgia. He was a current member and deacon at Old Bethel Baptist Church in Chickamauga, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Emory, Curtis Sr., Tom, Lloyd and Franklin Guffey; and a nephew, Wayne Guffey.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Ellis Guffey; and his mother-in-law, Ora Lee Ellis, both of Flintstone; several nieces and nephews.

Lebron was preceded in death by his mother, Reva Carroll Moore.
