Emma Howard Adkins, 91, of Chattanooga, departed this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in a local hospital.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

David Booth

David Wendell Booth passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at a local hospital.

He was a graduate of East Ridge High School. David served with the 82nd Airborne during the Veitnam War.

He retired from Olan Mills and was later associated with Kelly Cadillac.

Survivors: parents, Opal and Pope Booth; daughter, Ashley; son, Aaron; grandson, Gage; and Vickey, a close member of the family.

Jennifer Lynn Burks, 35, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in a local hospital.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Jennifer was a student at the Orange Grove Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Burks; and her grandmother, Della Clabo.

Survivors include her father, Charles W. Burks Sr.; sister, Paula Marie Burks; brother, Charles W. Burks Jr.; grandfather, Herbert Clabo; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Nancy Cardillo

Nancy Cardillo, 75, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at her home.

Mrs. Cardillo was born in Bloomfield, N.J. to Edward and Dorothy Miller. She was a member of St. Elmo Presbyterian Church and a lover of animals involved in breeding exotic animals, and was the founder and publisher of a related magazine.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Joseph Cardillo; sons, Christopher, a resident of Orange Grove, Michael and his wife, Maria, and Kenneth and his wife, Audra, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Sarah (Stephen) Nichols, Ian (Kelly) Cardillo, Jonah, Owen, Giorgianna and Nolan Cardillo; great-grandchildren, Leia and Finnigan; sisters, Lois (Don) Speakman, of Ohio and Sarah (Warren) Oster, of Ooltewah; and brother, David (Vivian) Miller, of Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marilyn Stone.

Alyce Debenjak

Alyce A. Debenjak, 79, a resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her home.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Debenjak was active at St. Augustine and St. Jude Catholic Churches. She was an avid bridge player and was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Debenjak; and a daughter, Therese Green.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Roy) Adorni, Barbara (Brandt) McFarlin and Cindy (Jim) Kedrowski; son-in-law, Bruce Green; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of Celebration and inurnment will be held Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church.

The family will gather with friends following the service at St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Brenda Harding

Brenda Sherrill Harding, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at a local hospital.

She was a native of Chattanooga and had lived throughout the United States before settling down the last year of her life in Chattanooga. Mrs. Harding was an ordained minister practicing in the Native American faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Harding; and parents, Lester and Lillian Sherrill.

Survivors include three children, Ella "Luci" Anderson, Alan Sherrill and Emily Anderson; sister, Louise Carroll; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one aunt, two nieces and two cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Don Hawkins officiating.

Mrs. Henry was employed with Kleen-a-matic and was preceded in death by her father, Charles Robert Clark; two grandsons, Jason Brown and Aiden Miles; paternal and maternal grandparents; and a nephew, Matthew Cook.

Survivors include her mother, Betty Cook, Chattanooga; three daughters, Lisa (Randy) Miles, Chattanooga, Karen Dalgleish, Tampa, Fla., Amy (Martin) Hughes, Chattanooga; two brothers, Charles and David Cook, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Hollie, Lauren, Andrew, Keaton, Ashton and Amber.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St Paul's Episcopal Church.

Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Ethel June Long, 87, of East Ridge, went home to be with Jesus Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

Pasty Allene Martin, 61, of Harrison went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and employed with Wal-Mart Centers.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gene Whitt and Bobbie Lindsey.

She is survived by her children, Edward (Brittany) Kirkland, Kelly (David) East, Tracy (Darryl) Orr, and Kirisa Blansit; seven grandchildren, Troy Leamon Jr., Christopher Leamon, Hailey East, Darryl Orr Jr., Eric Orr, Michael Kirkland and Gauge Kirkland.

Catherine Finley Minger, 92, of Chattanooga passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Daisy Finley Sr.; and husband, Arthur Minger.

Fayne Quarles

Fayne Benjamin Quarles, 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at his home after a long illness.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was the owner of Quarles Jewelry and Quarles Jewelry Repair after serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sgt. in Company A 1276th Engineering Battalion.

Mr. Quarles was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Carl Quarles and Iva Novel Quarles: two brothers, Conway and Claude Quarles.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Quarles; four daughters, Wanda (David) Jernigan, Linda (Doyle) Housley, Janet Quarles and Connie Pruitt, all of Chattanooga; Also surviving nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen Quarles, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Joyce Cox and Mildred Neville, both of Panama City, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Fred Sanders

Fredrick Gad Sanders, 35, of Chattanooga, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 21, 2008.

Fred was employed at Lillie Mae's Restaurant.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Michelle; son Austin; mother, Dora Vandergriff and numerous other friends.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, 601 Ashland Terrace.

Kirk Snouffer

Kirk Snouffer, 59, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at a local hospital after a series of illnesses.

He was born on July 1, 1948 in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University of The South, magna cum laude, and pursued his legal education at the University of Texas where he graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Snouffer began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Virgil Pittman, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, where he served for two years.

In 1975, he began his private practice of law with the firm of Chambliss, Bahner, Crutchfield, Gaston & Irvine, now Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel in Chattanooga, where he has practiced ever since. He specialized in the areas of estate planning, corporate and individual taxation, retirement plans and executive compensation, real estate and business planning. He served for many years as the firm's managing partner. He was also the firm's self-appointed firm Historian, and in that capacity maintained collections of anecdotes and memorabilia, both good and bad, about the present and past members and their activities. His dry wit and uncanny ability to judge character made him something of a "national treasure" within his law firm.

An avid world traveler, he and his devoted wife, Marian, enjoyed many trips abroad. His love for animals, especially his dogs and cats, was legendary and he possessed both a great love and deep understanding of the game of baseball. For many years he had been an ardent supporter of programs for protection of wildlife and the environment.

He was active in the United Way, East Tennessee Legal Aid Society and The Alumni Association of his beloved University of Texas. He was also a devoted supporter of the University of The South.

His professional memberships included the American, Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Associations, the Chattanooga Estate Planning Council and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He was admitted to practice before all Tennessee courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and the U.S. Tax Court.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Kirk Snouffer and Mary Snouffer, of Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Moreland Snouffer, of Chattanooga; and a sister, Linda Rinehart, of Tuttle, Okla.

Celebration of Mr. Snouffer's life will be held Friday, March 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 20 Belvoir Ave. with the Rev. Gene Smitherman officiating.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church immediately before the service.

Ada Welch

Ada Dalton Welch, 85, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.

She was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Welch; parents, Robert and Minnie Dalton; brother, Stanley Dalton; sister, Ruby Russell; half-brothers, Oscar and Glenn Greer; half sister, Alta Robinson Matthews.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Blosser, of Chattanooga, Debbie (Orlan) Carpenter, of Knoxville; two sons, Richard D. (JoAnn) Welch and Roger J. (Nancy) Welch, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Cindy Morris, Jeff Prater, Kim Ries, Niccole Rowe, Adam Carpenter and Joseph Welch; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Reece, of New Tazewell, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Herbert Garner

PALMER -- Herbert Garner, 88, passed away to be with the Lord, Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

Herb was a longtime member and deacon of Laager Independent Methodist Church and had recently celebrated his 75th anniversary as a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He was born on July 22, 1919 to Hobert and Myrtle Sissom Garner who preceded him in death along with his sons, Cecil and Don Garner; grandson, Lindley Garner; sister, Ethylene Seagroves; nephew, Allen Garner.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Morrison Garner; son, Steve Garner, Palmer; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Pettit, Tunnel Hill, Ga., Deborah and Steve Smith, Gruetli-Laager, Angela and Randall G. Rev. Dillard Hagan

NIOTA -- Rev. Dillard Hagan, 84, died early Tuesday morning, March 25, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens.

He was a native of Tompkinsville, Ky., and a resident of McMinn County for 30 years. He was a son of the late Bascal Hagan Sr. and Effie Carlock Hagan.

In 1937, at the age of 13, he made a profession of faith, was ordained into the Gospel Ministry on Oct. 1, 1946 by Millcreck Baptist Church, Tompkinsville, Ky., and had served in the Ministry for 57 years. The Rev. Hagan pastored the First Baptist Church, Friendsville, Tenn., Tennessee Ave. Baptist Church, Knoxville; McPherters Bend Baptist Church, Church Hill, Tenn., First Baptist Church, Kutawa, Ky., Beaumont Avenue Baptist Church, Knoxville, Buffalo Trail Baptist Church, Morristown, Tenn; Forest Hills Baptist Church, Maryville, Tenn.; First Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Tenn.; North Athens Baptist Church, Athens, Tenn.; White Plains Baptist Church, Scottsville, Ky.; Indian Creek Baptist Church, Flippin, Ky.; Rogers Creek Baptist Church, Athens, Tenn.; and New Bethel Baptist Church, Etowah, Tenn.

He attended Campbellsville University; Campbellsville, Ky., Clear Creek Baptist School, Pineville, Ky., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Louisville, Ky., and Andersonville Baptist Seminary, Andersonville, Ga. He held a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Divinity, Masters of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1915 to Tom and Rena Creek Sissom who preceded her in death along with her husband, Hershell Harrison; son, Thomas Edward Harrison; brothers, Jay, Fred, Henry, Jim and Lawrence Sissom.

MONTEAGLE -- Camellia Kay Bone Jackson, 45, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

Graveside Memorial service will be 11 a.m. CDT Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Monteagle Cemetery, Monteagle.

Ruth Purser

DAYTON -- Ruth Nicholson Purser passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the age of 99 at the home of her niece, Sue Boyd Travis.

She was born Sept. 1, 1908, to William Robert and Martha Emmaline Riggs Nicholson in Morristown, Tenn.

Ruth came to Dayton at the age of 16 after receiving her teaching certificate from Maryville College. She taught second and seventh grades for 17 years at Dayton City School. Following her teaching career, she worked as a clerk with the Rhea County Health Department. During World War II, she was appointed Home Service chairman for the American Red Cross and acted as a liaison officer between the armed forces and soldiers' families. Among her many duties were delivering "killed in action" notices to the families of fallen soldiers.

In 1948 Ruth and her husband Wallace opened Hy-Way Gardens, a floral and gift shop in Dayton which they owned and operated until 1987. She was a born designer and had an eye for excellence. She continued her career at Rhea Floral designing floral arrangements and directing weddings until she was 90 years old.

Being an active member of the Dayton Garden Club, which she helped to organize, she served as historian for many years. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wallace; sisters, Jessie Hefner, Gladys Purkey, Lois Boyd, and Mildred Berry; brothers, French Nicholson and William Nicholson.

Remembering her with love are nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, with the Rev. John Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow at Buttram Cemetery.

Hazel Hix

CHICKAMAUGA -- Hazel Cox Hix, 93, formerly of East Ridge, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, peacefully at home, in the arms of her two daughters Sandra and Linda and two of her granddaughters, Leslie and Sonja, whom all considered caring for her a privilege as she had always cared for any others in need.

Her love of God and family is the legacy she leaves behind for all who knew and loved her. She was the glue that held her large family together. She was also known for being a prayer warrior and never tired of work, love, life and family. She was known for hugs and smiles, her great sense of humor and fun-loving spirit. A woman of strong faith, she was a long-time member of White Oak Baptist Church, and a longtime member of the Ester Class. She retired from Franklin Processing in 1970.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Cox; sister, Aline Hudgins; two brothers, Bill Cox Jr. and Gordon Cox;, her first husband, Joe Shockley; second husband, L.A. Hix; daughter, Virginia Jo Shockley, all of Chattanooga.

Survivors include her children: son, Don Shockley and wife, Sherry, of Cookeville; daughters, Sandra Renner and husband, Joe, of Chickamauga, and Linda Lowber and husband, Jerry, of Harrah, Okla.; grandchildren, Donna Shockley, Tammy Keown, Shannon Eubanks, Cathy Renner, Joey Renner, Skipper Renner, Sonja Renner, Leslie Renner and Julie Cline Hubkey; 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren plus four more on the way.

The family will receive visitors 1–8 p.m. today, March 27, 2008 at Lane Funeral Home, South Crest Chapel, Rossville.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Lane Funeral Home, South Crest Chapel, with the Rev. Ted Painter and Darrell Newman officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Nephews and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the American Alzheimer Association.

Jimmy McKenzie Sr.

RINGGOLD -- Jimmy McKenzie Sr., 68, of Woodstation, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at his residence.

He was a member of Woodstation United Methodist Church and was also retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway after 40 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Doris McKenzie; sons, Jimmy (Sandy) McKenzie, Woodstation, Tim McKenzie, Atlanta; daughter, Sandy McKenzie, Ringgold; grandchildren, Corey McKenzie and Chelsea McKenzie; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel with the Rev. Randall Massingill officiating.

Interment will follow in Woodstation Cemetery.

RINGGOLD -- Alene Combs Ritter, 77, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in a local hospital.

She was a native of Booneville, Ky., but had lived in the North Georgia area for 44 years.

She was the widow of the late Paul Ritter.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Barry Hughie, of Ringgold, Kathy and Al Price, of Soddy-Daisy; son and daughter-in-law, William and Lisa Ritter, of Rossville; grandchildren, Chris Bethune, Tracy Brookshire and Jacob Ritter; great-grandchildren, Cody, Josh and Alex Bethune, Austin and Hunter Brookshire; sister, Jeannie Pritchett, of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Warren Combs, of Portland, Ore.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the East Chapel.

SUMMERVILLE -- Albert Thompson, 61, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

He was a member and deacon of Silver Hill Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Floyd Spring.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geneva Thompson, of Summerville; son Barry Thompson, of Rome; sister, Peggy Clark; brother, Anthony Wallin, both of LaFayette; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral 2 p.m. today at the Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home Service conducted by Dr. John Hayes and the Rev. Melvin Bridges.

Pallbearers: Matthew Thompson, Kip Marks, Patrick Stansell, Andy Wallin, Josh Clark and Terry Mitchell.

Ara Mae Evans

STEVENSON -- Ara Mae Davis Evans, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

She retired from E&B Carpet and was a member of Helton Memorial Chapel and VFW Auxiliary Post 10564.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Evans; son, Glenn Ray Evans; granddaughter; and five brothers.

She is survived by her children, Clyde (Sharon) Evans, Jean (Don) Payne, Betty (Jerry) Ake, Bobbie Wilson, all of Stevenson; daughter-in-law, Ann Evans, of Ringgold, Ga.; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons.

The funeral will be Friday, March 28, at 1 p.m. CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by the Rev. George Maynor and the Rev. Brandon Evans.

Interment will be at Stevenson City Cemetery.

Visitation will be today 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson.
