Cause of death examined in car accident

The Chattanooga Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of death for a man involved in a traffic accident Thursday afternoon.

Paul E. Daugherty, 67, was traveling north in the 1100 block of North Holtzclaw Avenue in his 1997 Dodge 2500 slumped over the wheel, witnesses said. At about 2 p.m., his vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic, ran off the roadway across two sets of railroad tracks and stopped after striking a fence, said Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Lt. Kim Noorbergen in a news release.

Mr. Daugherty was transported to Erlanger hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
