Chattanooga police have arrested and charged a city employee with stealing parts from city-owned bulldozers and selling it at scrap yards, according to a police department statement.
Randy Fields, 47, is charged with theft over $500, according to the statement. Mr. Fields, a city field supervisor, has been fired from his job, Public Works administrator Steve Leach said.
Since his arrest earlier today and booking into the Hamilton County Jail, Mr. Fields has been released on his own recognizance, according to the police statement.
Mr. Leach said Mr. Fields has been an employee of the city’s public works department for about seven years. The bulldozer parts were removed during service work for damage or because they weren’t operable, Mr. Leach said.
Mr. Fields can appeal the firing at a hearing next week, Mr. Leach said.
