Former state Rep. Jim Vincent said today he will enter the House District 31 and try to take the seat from Rep. Jim Cobb, R-Spring City.
“We made our decision to go ahead and run for District 31,” Mr. Vincent said. “We’re going today to pick up our papers.”
With Mr. Vincent entering the race, it sets up a battle between a Hamilton County Republican and a Rhea County Republican. District 31 comprises both northern Hamilton and Rhea counties.
Mr. Vincent had been waiting for the results of a poll administered in both counties. He said the results came back this morning.
“We were pleased with it,” he said.
Mr. Vincent represented District 31 from 2000 to 2004. He decided not to run for reelection after being involved in a barroom fracas in Nashville.
