Whitfield Chamber president resigns

by Erin Fuchs

DALTON, Ga. — After 12 years with the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, George Woodward has announced his immediate resignation as its president, citing personal reasons. He resigned on Thursday.

The resignation surprised Bill Jourdain, chairman of the Chamber’s executive board.

“He was not asked to resign,” Mr. Jourdain said. “George is a great guy and a great asset.”

He said his immediate reaction was disappointment, but added, “George’s leadership has left the Chamber in great shape.”

A news release sent out today touted the Chamber’s recent accomplishments. Most recently, the Chamber was one of only a few chambers in Georgia to receive a five star accreditation from the United States Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Jourdain said a committee will start the search for a new president, which “might take on a national scope.”
