James to challenge Favors for House seat

by Michael Davis

Former Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Stuart James said today that he is challenging state Rep. JoAnne Favors, D-Chattanooga, in the Aug. 7 Democratic legislative primary.

Mr. James, a local attorney, said there is a “feeling of disconnect” with Rep. Favors.

“Actions speak louder than words and it’s time on crime, on issues involving water and education that we have legislation proposed and written instead of talking about it,” he said. “She’s not in touch with persons’ concerns in the district.”

Rep. Favors said today that she was “a bit surprised” by the announcement but is not worried about the opposition.

“I welcome the challenge and I will campaign in a very positive manner, as I always have,” she said.

She dismissed charges that she is out of touch with constituents.

“Sometimes people have to create issues,” she said.
