Chattanooga: Lions win 17-16 on Adkins’ sac fly

Hunter Adkins’ sacrifice-fly RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday capped a wild 17-16 victory for Red Bank in the District 6-AAA baseball tournament at Central.
The win in the third game of the Lions’ best-of-three series with Ooltewah puts them in tonight’s championship game. Red Bank trailed 13-3 going into its half of the fourth inning but rallied with four runs, then added two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
After Corey Emery led off the seventh with a home run, a two-run single from Alan Walden tied the game at 16. Emery stole second and reached third on an error, and after two intentional walks, Adkins came through with the win’s. Casey Bembry and Brandon Ward each went 4-for-5 for the Lions, who will play Soddy-Daisy for the title.
The Trojans defeated Central 5-4 as Ryan Mullins went the distance. The senior, better known as an outfielder, gave up seven hits in the first three innings but allowed the Pounders no more over their final four at-bats. He struck out seven and walked three. Dakota Price was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Trojans.
n District 5-AAA: At Cleveland, Tyler Brown kept the Blue Raiders alive with a 12-strikeout three-hitter in a 3-2 victory over Walker Valley. Bradley Central beat McMinn County 20-10.
n District 5-AA: Drayton Hales was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Boyd-Buchanan took advantage of four McMinn Central errors to win 8-5 in Englewood. The two meet again tonight at 6 to decide who will meet Polk County in the finals. The Wildcats downed Meigs County 4-0 as Brandon Bean pitched a two-hitter and Tyler Lee was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
n District 6-A: Lance Rorex earned his eighth pitching win of the season and helped himself with two hits, including a homer, three RBIs and three runs scored as host Lookout Valley topped Arts & Sciences, 13-3. Dustin Chance hurled a two-hitter and Jake Long and Timmy Smith had three hits each as Whitwell defeated South Pittsburg 11-1.
n District 5-A: At Engel Stadium, Silverdale Baptist secured its first region berth with a 9-6 win over David Brainerd. Chris Casey and Jared Behler knocked in three runs each, while Jake Anderson and Tyler Barnett had two hits apeice. Grace Academy defeated Copper Basin 11-0 behind Alec Rose’s one-hitter and three hits from Jared Peace. Grace plays Tennessee Temple today at 4:30, with the winner to face David Brainerd at 7. The winner of that game goes against Silverdale Baptist in the final Thursday at 4:30, with a deciding game to follow if necessary.
n Division II-AA East District: At Baylor, Andy Shuford’s double scored pitcher Tyler Massey with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Baylor rallied past McCallie, 4-3. Massey, who had two doubles and two RBIs, improved to 10-0 for the season with a complete game. The two meet again today at 5 at Baylor in the best-of-three series, with a deciding game scheduled for Wednesday if McCallie wins.
