Jim Bean
James "Jim" D. Bean, 80, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2008.
Jim was a lifelong resident of the Hamilton County area. He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1946 and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He retired from Siskin Steel of Chattanooga and worked for Lucey Boiler of Chattanooga after his retirement. Jim was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ersie Bean.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lodema Bean; daughters, Amy (Ken) Weaver, Hixson and Linda (Jack) Floyd, Soddy-Daisy; sons, Steve (Lisa) Bean, Soddy-Daisy and Jim Bean, Cape Coral, Fla.; granddaughters, Bonnie (Joel) Cordell and Brencie (Kevin) Fox; grandsons, Cameron and Christopher Bean, Todd (Wendy) Floyd; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Charlie (Clara) Bean and Joe (Dot) Bean; beloved brother-in-law and special friend, Leonard Narrimore; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Sherry Harris officiating.

Linda Carpenter, 60, of Signal Mountain, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in a local hospital.

Paul Davenport
Paul Shipman Davenport, 88, of Red Bank, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in a local healthcare facility.
Paul attended First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Lee Anderson Sunday School Class and It's a Wonderful Life group. He retired from Noland Co. with 30 years of service. Paul served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lewis Davenport.
Survivors include his daughter, Martha D. (John) Mabry, of Chattanooga; sons, James H. (Gail) Davenport, of Chattanooga, Thomas L. (Tammy) Davenport, of Trenton, Ga., and Timothy G. (Brenda) Davenport, of Sebring, Fla.; brothers, William (Margaret) Davenport, of Nashville and Harold (Jean) Davenport, of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors and Lee Anderson officiating.

Zelma Gamble Dodd, 102, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 4, 2008, at a private care home.

Helen Hampton
Helen Hunton Hampton, 82, lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Hampton taught elementary education at St. Nicholas for many years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Hampton.
Survivors include her two sons, Peter Hampton and Andrew Hampton, both of Signal Mountain.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Clarence Lewis Jr.
Clarence M. Lewis Jr., 80, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at a local hospital in Flint, Mich., following complications from hip surgery.
He fought a courageous battle until the end.
Clarence was a longtime resident of Soddy-Daisy, before moving to Michigan. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran and a member of Masonic Lodge 32 and Daisy Masonic Lodge 706 F&AM. Clarence was also a member of East Flint Lion's Club.
Besides his love for teaching, he enjoyed all sports and coached many winning softball and football teams. He also was retired from his second career from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence (Dinah) Lewis; and mother, Leva Lewis; brother, J.W. Lewis; and sisters, Geraldine Hill and Virginia Lemons.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby Leffew Lewis; sons, Christopher (Mary Ann) Lewis, Cocco Beach, Fla., Randall (Tina) Lewis, Detroit, Mich. His pride and joy his five grandchildren; his brother, Charles (Martha) Lewis, of Cagle Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilburn Hardyman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brian Weas, Greg Weas, James Leffew Jr., Michael Crowe, Bobby Crowe and Burt Schaerer.
Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Rodney A. "Bear" Lomnick passed away Thursday, April 30, 2008, at a local hospital.
He was born on Dec. 12, 1967.
Survivors include wife, Tawana Lomnick; two stepchildrens; childrens, Sheree, Rodney, Jaricka, Dianna, Ronesha, Lomnick, all of Chattanooga; mother, Diane Lomnick; father, Willie G. (Rhonda) Appling; stepmom, Gloria G. Appling; brothers, Kerry Lomnick, Willie J. James Howard Matthews, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at his home.

Ruby Morton
Ruby Gillins Morton, 70, departed this life Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Mableton, Ga.
Ruby was a retired employee of Erlanger Hospital. She was also a former employee of Dr. David Pitts, Hamilton County Health Department, Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Hamilton County Government Correctional Institution and Orange Grove Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Catherine Davis Gillins; spouse, Obie T. Morton Sr.; and son, Obie T. Morton Jr.
She is survived by siblings, Caroline (Leroy) Robinson, Betty Baker, Robert (Althea) Gillins; devoted children, Hortense (Floyd) Price, Beaumont, Texas, Vanessa Morton, Mableton, Ga., Lesmer (Gene) Orr, Douglasville, Ga., Ardenna (Gary) Logan, Lithia Springs, Ga. and Hilton T. Morton; loving grandchildren, Brittany and Briana Price, Beaumont, Texas and Terrell Orr, Douglasville, Ga.; many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home.
Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Thelma Mullins
Thelma M. Mullins, 98, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her granddaughter's home in Chickamauga, Ga.
Thelma was a member of Temple Baptist Church. A loving mother and grandmother, she was the backbone and strong center of her family.
She was the wife of the late John Mullins and was preceded in death by her children, Muriel Myers, Patsy Johnson, Richard Lamar Mullins and Harry Mullins; sisters, Arbutes Huff and Alfratea McGhee; and brothers, Wiley, Dexter and Jack Heard.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Mike) Wilson, of East Ridge; son, Johnny Michael (Vivian) Mullins, of East Ridge; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with the Rev. Ken Trivette officiating.
Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Fred Stutz
Fred T. Stutz, 86, of East Ridge, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, in a local hospital.
He was a member of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church for 51 years and the Wesley Sunday School class. Fred was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He was with Red Food Stores in Chattanooga for 15 years, was a financial advisor with Financial Service Corp. (FSC) and owned the franchise in Chattanooga for World Bazaar.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Stutz.
Survivors include his sons, James Stutz, of Church Hill, Tenn., and Michael Stutz, of Scottsboro, Ala.; six grandchildren, Jeff Stutz, Christy Boggs, Jason Stutz, Stephanie England, Melodie Allen and Allison Osborne; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed Stutz, of Whitwell, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist with the Rev. Mike Lowery and the Rev. Randall Massengale officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South, with fall military honors.

Linda Upton
Linda Upton, of Soddy-Daisy, died Monday, May 5, 2008, in an area nursing home.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was past chair of Follow-Up Committee, a Sunday school teacher and Haven Ministry team member. Everybody knew Linda as an excellent cook. She retired from Chattanooga Coco-Cola Bottling Co. after 20 years service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Elsie Holland; and brothers, Charles, Jimmy and Roy Joe Holland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 12 years, Don Upton of Soddy-Daisy. There was never a day that he was not at her bedside while she was in the nursing home, He would always read the Bible daily to her, sing and cherish her mind with all the wonderful things they did together.
She is survived by her three loving sons, John McGriff of Arkansas, Donnie Upton, Atlanta, and Mark (Whitney) Upton, Whitehouse, and a beautiful granddaughter of Mark and Whitney's, Emma; her three loving sisters, Betty Byrd and Sandy Layne, both of Dunlap and Debbie Angel, Pikeville; a loving brother, Jackie Holland, of Dunlap; several loving nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Calvin and Sandy Layne; the Holland family; J.C. and Janie Smith; Dr. Bruce Pendley and the Trinity Hospice Staff plus Jan Newmyer and her D wing staff at the Health Center of Standifer Place.
Funeral service will be Friday at noon CDT in the funeral home chapel with Tennessee Representative Richard Floyd, Music Minister and formerly Linda's boss.

JASPER -- Willie L. Cabe, 91, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home. He was saved by the grace of God and went home to be with Jesus.
He was a member of Baptist Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded by his parents Earl and Minnie Russell Cabe.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vinnie McFalls Cabe; children and spouses, Willie Lee Ewton, Jasper, George Cabe and Sarah, Jasper, Maxine Bishop and Earl, Norman Park, Ga., Eddie Cabe and Donna, Roger Cabe and Sissy, of Jasper, Inez "Cookie" Reed and Bill, of Battle Creek, Ruby Iles and Ken, Dayton, Mamie Reynolds and Fred, Whitwell, Marilyn Taylor and Velton, Crossroads, Tina Price and C.W., Tracy City, and Bridgett Fulfer and Al, Whitwell; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel, Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m. CDT with Brother Roger Webb officiating.
Visitation will be today 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT and 10 a.m. CDT until time of service on Thursday, May 8, 2008.

Richard Ellis
DAYTON MOUNTAIN -- Richard A. Ellis, 65, entered into rest Monday, May 5, 2008, at Erlanger Hospital.
Richard was born in Michigan on Jan. 27, 1943, and moved to Dayton Mountain in 1984 where he worked as a carpenter. Richard was a member of Graysville Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was head deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen Salzwedel Ellis, of Dayton Mountain; son, Richard "Mike" Ellis, of Pikeville; daughter, Aimee Lynn Ivascu, of Cartersville, Ga.; his mother, Ida Smith, of Belleville, Mich.; three grandchildren; and his three brothers, Walter Ellis, of Belleville, Mich., Warren Ellis, of Tyler, Texas, and John Ellis, of Dayton, Tenn.
Funeral services for Richard will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Graysville Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor David Wendt officiating.
His family will receive friends at the church Thursday after 5 p.m.

SOUTH PITTSBURG -- Alexandria Mount, infant daughter of Christina Mount and Glenn Susskind, passed away Thursday May 1, 2008.
Alexandria was preceded in death by her grandfather, Luther Hodge.

Jack Kreis
RINGGOLD -- Jack Leonard Kreis, 77, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at a local health care facility.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Kreis was retired from TCU as general chairman after seven years and 42 years prior with the Southern Railway.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Dranda Ruth Kreis; and a brother, William Joseph Kreis.
Survivors include son, Jack G. (Norma) Kreis, Ringgold; daughters, Jan (Tim) Boyd, Chattanooga, Susan (Marcus) Boring, Dalton, and Joy (Jeff) Edwards, Bartlett, Tenn.; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack (Jan Marie) Lewis and Carolyn Kreis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CARTERSVILLE -- William Merle Willard died Saturday, May 3, 2008.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ray Ryan, of Ider; two daughters, Gail and Lamar Sparks, Maryville, Tenn., Gerry and Donald West, Ider; one son, Guy Ryan, Atlanta; three sisters, Vonnie Forester, Rising Fawn, Ga. Legatha Walston, Rising Fawn, Elaine Webb, LaFayette, Ga.; two brothers, Don Gray, Rising Fawn, Harold Gray, Higdon, Ala.; four grandchildren, Nathan Huff, Laura O'Dell, Kevin Schlageter and Jared Schlageter; six great-grandchildren, Libby Johnson, Maddie Huff, Allie, Jenna, Carley and Eli Schlageter. Also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
