Bradley hopes to complete budget in one hearing

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Bradley County commissioners and department heads will attempt to resolve all budget issues for fiscal year 2009 in one meeting on Tuesday.

The commission’s Finance Committee agreed today there are few questions to consider from departmental budget requests this year.

“There’s not a whole lot of need for budget hearings this year,’’ County Mayor D. Gary Davis told the committee.

The only budget hearing for this year will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday and last as long as needed. That could be three or four hours, Mr. Davis said.

But the committee agreed that one long session is better than the previously scheduled two budget hearing evenings plus a Saturday budget retreat. The public and the full commission are invited to the Tuesday hearings.

The second budget hearing, scheduled for May 15, and the following Saturday retreat at Cleveland State were canceled.
