Georgia: Lookout Mountain woman charged with filing false rape report

by Ryan Harris

A woman who told police she was raped at gunpoint by men posing as police officers was arrested today for filing a false report, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said.

“This entire story was fabricated. There was no factual basis,” Sheriff Wilson said about the woman’s April 25 claim. “It alarmed many people and caused many people to be fearful of their surroundings.”

Crystal N. Snider, 23, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., was released on $408 bond and will appear June 7 in Walker County State Court, the sheriff said.

Filing a false police report in Georgia is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in a jail and a $1,000 fine.

Ms. Snider told police on April 25 that her vehicle was stopped on Nickajack Road in Flintstone, Ga., by a vehicle flashing blue lights, and that she was raped by one man while the another held a gun to her head.

Sheriff Wilson declined to disclose a possible motive in the case.
