Chattanooga: Council Fire return thrills 49ers
Coach Jamie Green’s golf season began at Chattanooga’s Council Fire Golf Club. He’s crossing his fingers that his UNC Charlotte team’s season doesn’t end there.
Green’s 49ers won the Scenic City Invitational last September at Council Fire with an impressive score of 30 under par for 54 holes.
Charlotte will return to Council Fire as the second-seeded team in the NCAA East Regional, which begins Thursday on the course that straddles the Georgia-Tennessee border.
“The challenge is to come in there and know that the course will be a little different than the last time we played there,” Green said. “The course may be a little different. But we know, walking from green to tee, what it’s going to be like.”
Charlotte sophomore Corey Nagy won the Scenic City individual title with a 9-under 204. Senior Jonas Enander Hedin has been the most consistent player on the team throughout the year, and he is one of many with the ability to take individual honors this week.
“It’s exciting to go back to Council Fire in Chattanooga,” Hedin said. “It helps confidence-wise when you’ve played well on a course.”
