Former Vol arrested on drug charges after reporting burglary

KNOXVILLE — A former Tennessee offensive lineman was arrested on drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession charges after calling police to report a burglary.

Cameron Mayo, a native of Dalton, Ga., who graduated last week without ever playing in a game as a Volunteer, told police on Wednesday night that he thought two guns were missing from the apartment of a friend who was out of town.

Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk told The Knoxville News Sentinel that during the investigation, officers asked for permission to search Mayo’s vehicle.

Officers allegedly found a plastic bag with a small amount of marijuana, prescription painkillers in an unlabeled pill bottle and rolling papers considered to be drug paraphernalia.

Mayo was charged with three misdemeanors.
