Clyde Benefield
Clyde Benefield, 79, of Ooltewah, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Hamilton County, he was retired from Tennessee-American Water Co. after 33 years of service. He was a member of Ooltewah Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the VFW. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. Mr. Benefield attended Ooltewah Church of Christ.
Survivors are his wife, Charlotte Ann Millican Benefield; four daughters, Pamela Allen, Collegedale, Kim (Larry) McArthur, Chattanooga, Karen (Lynn) Pickel, Bakewell and Candee (Dane) Parton, Apison; sisters, Inez Barbree, Chattanooga and IvaLee Carlock, Boynton, Ga.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Tim Arthur officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Donald Calvin Billingsley II, 63, of Hixson, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Webster Bollinger
Webster Taylor Bollinger, 91, of Signal Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 26, 2008.
Webster was a member of Sawyer Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a school bus driver for Hamilton County Schools, Bus #48 for 40 years. Webster was known for raising Polled Hereford cattle and farming on Signal Mountain. Webster was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1936 and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae McCrary Bollinger; daughter, Betty Lynn Bollinger; and sister, Alice Shelly.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth (Aubrey) Ducker, of Signal Mountain and Myra (Al) Strunk, of California; son, Sam (Trish) Bollinger, of Graceville, Fla.; grandchildren, Sarah (Ty) Hodges and Jessica Bollinger, both of Graceville, Fla., Erin Strunk, of California, Susan (Jeff) Foster, of Chattanooga, Harry (Laurie) Ducker of Winter Park Fla., and Andy (Hollie) Ducker, of Signal Mountain; great-grandchildren, Carolyn Ducker and Riley Ducker, of Winter Park, Fla., Gates Elizabeth Foster, Benjamin Foster and Jacob Foster, of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with the Rev. Don Ferguson and Dr. Steve Grainger officiating.
Interment will be in Sawyer Cemetery.

Mary Frances Brogdon, 76, a resident of Ooltewah, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
Survivors: John Brogdon, Julius Brogdon Sr., Jessie Brogdon, Delorse Thompson, Syble Arner, Carolyn Nichols and Rose Phillips; 31 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary Elizabeth Brooks
Mary Elizabeth Brooks, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008. She was 91.
She was retired from J.C. Penny Co. after many years of service and was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Brooks; and her parents, Christian A. Lehman and Della Underwood Lehman.
She is survived by her sons, James (Beverly) Brooks, Robert "Bob" (Linda) Brooks; daughter, Patricia Ann (Don) McDade; brothers, Jack Lehman, Joe Lehman, Bill Lehman; sisters, Martha Lehman Archer and Betty Sue Lehman; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday, May 30, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. in National Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Walliser officiating.

James Cartwright
James F. "Bud" Cartwright, 85, of Chattanooga, died Monday, May 26, 2008, in a local hospital.
A lifelong resident of Hamilton County, he was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp and was retired from South Central Bell with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, the Christian Home Builders Class and the Keenagers all of St. John Methodist Church and also a member of Triple L of Oakwood Baptist Church. He was a member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge 558 F&AM since 1972.
He was the son of the late A.C. and Martha B. Cartwright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Blaylock Cartwright; and a sister, Rowena Cartwright Welch.
Survivors include his daughter, Martha Ray Cartwright, Chattanooga; son, James F. (Melissa) Cartwright Jr., Manchester, Tenn.; two grandchildren, James F. (Jamie) Cartwright III, Tullahoma, Tenn., and Anna Marie Cartwright, Manchester; sister, Louise Cartwright Waller, Chattanooga; and loving friend, Mildred C. Smith, Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Sherry Boles officiating.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Edward Denham
Edward Whaley Denham, 76, of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in a local hospital.
He was a member of Chattanooga Church.
Edward served his country both in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, then went on to retire from Muller Co. after his military service.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Whaley and Rose Denham; one brother, Bill Denham.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Denham, of Harrison; two sons, Edward Ray (Felicia) Denham, of Virginia Beach and Mark Denham, of Harrison; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at graveside on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Don Erwin
Don Roy Erwin, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, with his family at his side.
Mr. Erwin was a graduate of Central High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree in Bible and Religious Education from Carson Newman College.
He served in a number of Baptist churches in Tennessee as minister of music and minister of education. Among them were Trenton Street Baptist in Harriman; First Baptist, Hixson and Broadway Baptist in Maryville.
In 1964 Mr. Erwin joined his father, a pioneer in the tufting industry, in his business, while continuing his music ministry. In 1972 he founded Erwin Enterprises Inc., designing and importing tufting needles from Germany. Under his leadership, Erwin Enterprises became sole distributor of the Eisbar needle in the United States and Canada. He retired as CEO in 1992 at which time his son, Don Erwin Jr., assumed leadership of the business making three generations of leaders in the tufting industry.
During his retirement years he pursued his love of travel and indulged in his hobby of golf.
As an active member of Brainerd Baptist Church he served as deacon and on various committees. He was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Mr. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Erwin.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Edgmon Erwin; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Connie Erwin; daughter, Jan and husband, Michael May, of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Jared and wife, Jane Erwin, Alyson and husband, Hunter Duke, Holly Temple, Austin and Savannah Frost, all of Knoxville; one uncle, Dr. Thurman Prewett, of Memphis.
Funeral services will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel at 1 p.m. today, May 29, conducted by the Rev. Dr. J. Howard Cobble and the Rev. George Clark.
Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Cox, Glen Fleming, Elder Glenn, Raymond Hale, Dr. Ed McKinney, Bill Russell, Elgin Smith, Kenneth Still, Vernon Wilson and grandsons, Jared Erwin, Austin Frost and Hunter Duke

Dick Fulcher
Richard L. "Dick" Fulcher, 83, of Hixson, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
Dick was born on June 12, 1924 in Kansas and has lived in Chattanooga for the past 44 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army as a first lieutenant in the Philippines. Dick graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was an engineer with Conoco and Kayo Oil Co. retiring after 32 years as vice president. Dick was the supervisor of construction for St. Jude Catholic Church and served as first chairman of the board at Crime Stoppers. He was active in the Republican Party, enjoyed hunting, golf, woodworking and the Boy Scouts. He was a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Ann; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fulcher; and sister, Frances Harbert.
Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa; five children, Michael (Debbie), Nashville, Donald (Jeanette), Chattanooga, Mary (Jim) Antesberger, Chattanooga, Robert (Linda), Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mark (Mary Kay), Marietta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Father Mike Creson officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by one sister, Zelta Biggs, of Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews.

Frances "Fran" Nafe Weaver, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Weaver was a native of Chattanooga and graduated from City High School Class of 1944. She was employed by Industrial Supply Co. for 30 years prior to her retirement, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and later attended East Ridge Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy M. Weaver Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Merida Weaver Martin; grandchildren, Shanel (Chris) Martin Gaither and Slade (Brooke) Martin; great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Gaither and Caleb Gaither.

Charles Teague
ROSSVILLE -- Charles Eugene "Sonny" Teague, 78, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
Charles lived in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas for most of his life and was a member of Rossville Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from DuPont after more than 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Martha Teague; his first wife, Mary Ida Teague; brothers, Richard and James Teague; and daughter, Donna Vollers.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Teague; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Teague; two brothers, Jerry and Earnest Teague; sister, Mary Teague, all of Rossville; three grandchildren and spouses, Craig and Veronica Brightwell, Shannon and Claude Blair and Melissa Boyd; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Wilson
MACON -- Margaret Wilson, 84, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Kitcatt of Bury St. Edmonds, England and the wife of the late James Lloyd Wilson. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and a very active member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and the Daughters of the British Empire. Mrs. Wilson worked for the Bibb County School system. She was a well known knitting instructor in Macon for many years and a longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Wilson, of Atlanta, John and Denise Wilson, of Cochran, and Richard and Sharon Wilson, of Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Pete Whitfield, of Albany; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shane Green and Rev. Diane Sweckerd officiating.
The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the church.
Burial will be on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Varnell Family Cemetery, Ooltewah.

Leonard Moore
HUNTSVILLE -- Leonard Theodore Moore, 82, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Floyd E. "Tut" Fann Veterans Home after an extended illness with Parkinson.
Raised in Chattanooga, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in the European theatre during WW II. He returned and found employment with Redstone Arsenal and continued his education at UAH. He retired from NASA with 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Obera Hundley Moore, of Huntsville; son, Terry Moore, of Atlanta; daughter, Karen (Moore) Hunter, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at Spry Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. CDT Friday with Jason Moon and John Denney officiating.
Interment will be at Huntsville Memory Gardens.

DUTTON -- Peggy Newell Simmons, 68, died Tuesday, May 29, 2008.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Lighthouse Ministry of Scottsboro, Ala.
She is survived by husband, Richard Simmons, Dutton; two daughters, Debbie (Andy) Kendera, Hebron, Ind., Darla (Darren) Lingerfelt, Lookout Mountain, Ga.; three sons, Timothy Paul Simmons, Demotte, Ind., Buford Gene Huffer, Cedar Lake, Ind., Jeffery Allen Huffer, Hebron, Ind.; two sisters, Shelby Davis, Bluefield, Va., Judy Eanes, Morgantown, W.Va.; one brother: Edward Carver, Morgantown, W.Va.; four grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. EDT Friday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Paradise officiating.
Interment will be in Hanna Cemetery, Rising Fawn, Ga.
The family will receive friends noon-3 p.m. EDT and 5-9 p.m. today EDT.

Jewell Smith
FORT PAYNE -- Jewell Wells Smith, 95, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
She was preceded in death by parents, Andrew Jesse and Belva Crowe Wells; sisters, Billie Nelson, Gladys Lee and Jessie Louise Wells.
Survivors: a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service today 11:30 a.m. CDT at Valley Head Cemetery.

Effene Stephens
SCOTTSBORO -- Effene Stephens went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
She was born on July 10, 1934 in Estill Fork, Ala. She married Ray Stephens in 1953 and they raised four children in Griffith, Ind., then moved to Paducah, Ky., for 17 years before returning to Scottsboro. She later moved to Ringgold, Ga., to be near her children. She lived a life of faith and was an active member of the Nazarene Church in the community in which she lived. Upon moving to Scottsboro, she became a member of Centerpoint Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray V. Stephens; and her parents, Bonnie Ashley and Tally Austell.
Survivors include her four children, Allan (Debbie) Stephens, Kim (Terrell) Mayton, Michelle(Ben) O'Brien, and Joi (Tim) West; grandchildren Ben Stephens, Alexander and Caitlin Mayton, Raychel and Jacob (Ruth) O'Brien, and Samuel and Jack West; sister, Shirley (Robert) Jenness; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved caregiver, Vicki Cline.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 31, at Scottsboro Funeral Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. CDT with the Rev. David Morman officiating.
Burial will follow at Austell Cemetery.

Robert Klein
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Robert Klein, 49, died Monday, May 26, 2008, after a tragic accident.
He was born in Chicago, and was raised in Chattanooga. He was a resident of Port St. Lucie since 1989.
He was a 1976 graduate of the McCallie School in Chattanooga, and an avid alumni of the University of Tennessee. Mr. Klein was a 1984 graduate of Emory University with dual JD and MBA degrees.
Mr. Klein began his law career in Chattanooga, with the law firm of Schumaker & Thompson. In 1989 he moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla., and began practicing with the Dean Mead law firm. Mr. Klein became a shareholder in 1994, then a named partner in 1999 when the firm became Dean, Mead, Minton & Klein. Mr. Klein formed his own firm, Klein & Dobbins, in 2004 with partner Lee Dobbins. His practice was concentrated in the areas of real estate development, land use, planning and zoning.
Mr. Klein was a founding member of Temple Beit HaYam in Stuart. He was also a member of its founding board and served the Temple in other capacities through the years.
Mr. Klein was instrumental in the planning and government approvals of many projects throughout the Treasure Coast and represented many prominent companies including Liberty Medical, QVC, Centex Corporation, Florida Institute of Technology, Hometown Cable, Kenco Communities, Siemens Development Corporation, GL and Minto Communities.
He was also the chairman of St. Lucie County Planning & Zoning Commission (1993-1998); Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council (1996-2000); former president of St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Lucie County Advisory Board for Gulfstream Business Bank.
Mr. Klein was extremely devoted to his family. Their favorite activities included traveling, attending Tennessee football games, and spending time at their cabin in Townsend, Tenn. He was very supportive of his sons' sports and academic activities and took enormous pride in their accomplishments. Mr. Klein was also a wonderful friend to many and will be greatly missed.
He was an active member and supporter of the following civic organizations including the Downtown Port St. Lucie Lions Club, St. Lucie County Education Foundation, Port St. Lucie/St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council.
Survivors include his wife of almost 20 years, Susan McCraw Klein; two sons, Ethan Klein 14, and Peyton Klein 11; and mother, Shirley Tyber Klein, all of Port St. Lucie; brother, Joel and, wife, Rhonda Klein, of Rockwall, Texas; and sister, Felice Klein, of Chattanooga; and mother-in-law Gayle McCraw, of Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Klein, a holocaust survivor originally from Czechoslovakia.
It is the family's wishes and Jewish tradition that no flowers be sent to the temple or funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (Member and Donor Services, P.O. Box 90988, Washington, D.C., 20090-0988), Hospice of The Treasure Coast or Temple Beit HaYam.
A funeral service will be at noon today, May 29, 2008, at Temple Beit HaYam, 951 SE Monterey Commons Blvd., Stuart, with Rabbi Jonathan Kendall, officiating.
Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City.
