U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., overcame three challengers Tuesday night to win re-election to Congress.

U.S. House, GA District 9
With 197 of 252 precincts reporting:
* Nathan Deal (R): 125,026
* Jeff Scott (D): 44,461
On a night where the tide seemed to go toward Democrats, Rep. Wamp called for unity.
“Tonight we’re going to go to bed red states and blue states,” Rep. Wamp said. “Tomorrow we need to wake up a red-white-and-blue country.”
Rep. Wamp, 51, defeated Democrat Doug Vandagriff, 59, and independent candidates Jean Howard-Hill, 52, and Ed Choate, 58.
Rep. Wamp will be returning to Washington for his eighth term. He represents Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Southeast and Northwest Tennessee.
Rep. Wamp has said he is considering a run for governor in 2010.
Also on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., defeated Democratic opponent Jeff Scott, 35.
Rep. Deal represents Georgia’s 9th District, which covers most of Northeast Georgia, including Catoosa, Walker, Dade, Whitfield and Murray counties.
I considered Rep. Wamp's vote for the trillion dollar bailout but decided having a Republican remain in the House more important.
His vote on the bail out was wrong, as Tennesseans told him, and as he is surely beginning to see. It does not take much to get the American people to turn against you. Congressman Wamp retained his seat, but with the population changes, illegal aliens voting, Wamp may find himself on the outs by 2010. More votes like the bail out of Wall Street by the American people, more siding with the likes of Senators Alexander and Corker and Democrats, and he may find a very appealing conservative Republican will run against his recent liberal leanings, or a Democrat will come on the scene to ride the coat tails of the big Democratic sea change.
