U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., overcame three challengers Tuesday night to win re-election to Congress.

With 146 of 266 precincts reporting:

* Doug Vandagriff (D): 48,813
* Jean Howard-Hill (I): 3,280
* Ed Choate (I): 1,972
U.S. House, GA District 9
With 197 of 252 precincts reporting:
* Nathan Deal (R): 125,026
* Jeff Scott (D): 44,461
On a night where the tide seemed to go toward Democrats, Rep. Wamp called for unity.
“Tonight we’re going to go to bed red states and blue states,” Rep. Wamp said. “Tomorrow we need to wake up a red-white-and-blue country.”
Rep. Wamp, 51, defeated Democrat Doug Vandagriff, 59, and independent candidates Jean Howard-Hill, 52, and Ed Choate, 58.
Rep. Wamp will be returning to Washington for his eighth term. He represents Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Southeast and Northwest Tennessee.
Rep. Wamp has said he is considering a run for governor in 2010.
Also on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., defeated Democratic opponent Jeff Scott, 35.
Rep. Deal represents Georgia’s 9th District, which covers most of Northeast Georgia, including Catoosa, Walker, Dade, Whitfield and Murray counties.
