The Cleveland and Bradley County schools have been awarded a total of $230,000 to continue Coordinated School Health Partnerships, according to a news release.
Gov. Phil Bredesen and state Rep. Kevin Brooks, R-Cleveland, said city schools will get $130,000 and county schools will receive $100,000.
The money helps with programs aimed at health awareness, physical activity, healthy nutrition and counseling services, the release stated.
“A student’s health can support or hinder academic success and it is our responsibility to ensure a stronger generation through partnerships like the Coordinated School Health initiative and CoverKids,” Gov. Bredesen said in the release.
“Having a healthy school environment is essential to having healthy and productive students,” Rep. Brooks said. “We are wise to encourage more partnerships like we’ve seen in the past that benefit not only our children, but our communities as a whole.”
