Chattanooga: 'Cody's Warm Blankets'

Eight women from the Eastgate Senior Activity Center presented young cancer survivor Cody Allen with 14 blankets this week. The women had been making the hand-knitted, crocheted or sewn throws since mid-June to donate to “Cody’s Warm Blankets.”

Cody was treated for cancer at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital. April Allen, his mother, said that chemotherapy takes such a toll on children’s bodies that they feel chilled and have difficulty staying warm. Cody has made it his goal to collect as many blankets as possible to give cancer patients in Children’s Hospital.

“We started out making pocketbooks for ourselves,” said Nancy Grubb, one of the contributing senior adults. “But then we heard about Cody and decided to do something to help children. Now we’re planning to make caps for children who have lost their hair in chemotherapy.”
