BALTIMORE — Quarterback Vince Young didn't play for the fourth straight game Sunday, but perhaps took a step in the right direction as he was in uniform for the first time since suffering a knee injury in the season opener against Jacksonville.
After the game, Young said he is supportive of starter Kerry Collins and his teammates as the backup quarterback.
“I ain't got no choice,” Young said. “My man five (Collins) is doing his thing. The rhythm and everything is good. All I'm here to do is support him and be ready when it's time.”
“I'm getting there. I don't know about 100 percent, but I'd be out there playing,” Young said when asked about the possibility of being available to play against the Ravens.
Young said the focus should be on the team’s 5-0 start and not about him returning as a backup quarterback.
“It's not about me. It's not about me, period. It's all about everybody else in this room,” Young said.
He was then asked if his attitude was good regarding the situation, and said, “C'mon now, you know that. They say I'm not.”
He was then asked who was “they,” and replied, “Everybody. You know that. C'mon now. I'm the underdog, but it's not about V, it's about the Tennessee Titans. We're 5-0 going into our bye week.”
Young said he still feels as if he is part of the Titans' 5-0 start, despite playing in just one game..
“I am a part of that. What do you mean? Everybody knows what's going on. I'm rehabbing and trying to get my body right,” Young said. “But right now it's not about me, man. It's about being supportive my teammates. I keep telling everybody over and over, it's not about me. It's about the team.”
INJURIES
The Titans were plenty short-handed in Sunday's game on the defensive line, losing Pro Bowl defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch to a groin injury and Tony Brown with an undisclosed injury as well.
I just had some groin tightness. My groin was sore,” Vanden Bosch said. “That's a good thing we've done is develop depth. It's one of the benefits of rolling guys early in the season and getting a good rotation. There wasn't any letdown when the second group came in. We were healthy coming into this game and got a couple of people banged up.”
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was out of the lineup for a bit, and end Jacob Ford was limping afterwards in the locker room.
NOT ME
Not surprisingly players on both teams pleaded innocent after being flagged for personal fouls in the game.
Titans safety Chris Hope, whose personal foul after a third-down incompletion kept a Baltimore drive for a field goal alive, tried to explain his situation after engaging with Ravens receiver Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton.
“I think they got away with a lot of stuff after the whistle, but I don't think it was a cheap shot,” Hope said. “The very first play of the game, they pretty much tackled Griff, the same two receivers. I seen them coming at me, and I engaged with one of them, and they called the foul on me. I don't think that was a legit call.”
Haynesworth was hit with a 15-yard penalty on a extra point, and took issue with the call.
“This guy is going to come in and hit me after the ball has already been kicked, and then they call a personal foul on me,” Haynesworth said. “I didn't kick the guy or anything like that. If they wanted me to [get him], they would have really noticed it, but I didn't do anything like that.”
And the game's most important penalty, a roughing the passer call on Baltimore's Terrell Suggs that extended the eventual winning drive, was met with protest by the Ravens player.
“If anybody can go back and show me something I did illegal, then I would be happy to oblige and say, ‘I messed up and got what I deserved — a personal foul.’ But when you are nowhere near his head, we hit arms, we hit arms. It just goes to show you the referee has too much power in the game,” Suggs said.
DOG FIGHT
Haynesworth had an interesting take on the jawing between Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan and Ravens receiver Derrick Mason, a former Titan.
“D-Mase is like that little Chihuahua, always barking, and I guess you had two Chihuahuas with Cortland barking and fighting at each other,” Haynesworth said. “We know that's how DMase plays, and that' show Cortland plays, and we just got a little mad at each other. But once we got everything settled, we were all right.”
LONG WAIT
The Titans receivers did not catch a pass in the game until Brandon Jones' 14-yard reception with 2:56 to play in the third quarter. Jones wound up with three catches for 54 yards. Chris Davis was the only other wideout with a catch, a 10-yarder that converted a third down.
IT'S ON ME
Kerry Collins was asked exactly what changed from his two first-half interceptions to the game-winning drive, and said,“At some point, you've got to stop being boneheaded.”
Collins finished 17 of 32 for 163 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
