ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Tennessee sports information department just announced that freshman football players Aaron Douglas and Herman Lathers were released from UT Medical Center this morning following successful surgeries.

Douglas, a tight end from Maryville, is expected to redshirt this season and return for spring practice.

Lathers, a linebacker from Baton Rouge, La., had a tonsillectomy. He practiced until Wednesday, when he reported his tonsil soreness to team trainers.

Head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh said Lathers — who played in a Sept. 13 victory over UAB — “could return to action” this season. He could also opt for a redshirt.

The Vols (2-3, 0-2 Southeastern Conference) faced tenth-raned Georgia (4-1, 1-1) today at 3:30 p.m.
