U.S. Senate candidate Tuke says election is causing gas price drop

by Matt Wilson

Bob Tuke, a Democrat running to unseat U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said today that gas prices at the pump are coming down because it’s an election year.

Mr. Tuke said the wholesale price of oil has come down considerably over the last few months, but retail prices have taken much longer to catch up.

“That’s not market forces,” he told the Chattanooga Times Free Press editorial board.

Mr. Tuke also discussed the need for a comprehensive U.S. energy policy. He said the members of both parties have been “fat and dumb” when it comes to energy since the oil embargo in the 1970s.
