Blog: Test drive Tennessee

By Ron Littlefield

The "Test Drive Tennessee" Trade Mission is finished and the troops are packing up to head home. Everyone agrees that it was a big success. This was a unique opportunity for our new German friends to meet more of our regional neighbors - and for our own people to experience German culture and customs. This should make the coming months go more smoothly as we prepare for the second and third wave of development that will follow the main plant. We have pockets full of cards from suppliers and service providers for everything from powertrain components to interior features to logistics and (of course) international lawyers. Most importantly, Volkswagen is obviously pleased with their decision in selecting Chattanooga and is committed to move ahead as rapidly as weather will permit. The next two years will be wildly challenging and interesting, but this long trip has built a foundation for regional cooperation that is essential if we are to take full advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Heading back to Chattanooga.....
