East Ridge police arrest two after shoplifting report

East Ridge police chased a man and a woman Wednesday after the two allegedly took more than $100 worth of items from a Ringgold Road store.

East Ridge police were alerted to the thefts around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Clerks at the Dollar General tried to stop the man and woman but they fled, said Officer Erik Hopkins, police spokesman.

Officers tracked the suspects’ vehicle down and managed to make a traffic stop, but the passenger in the vehicle fled. After placing the woman driver of the vehicle in custody, police made a perimeter at the traffic stop scene and eventually arrested a man, Officer Hopkins said.

The suspects were identified as Tiffany Piper, 22, of Jasper, Tenn., and Troy Parr, 27, of Stevenson, Ala. Both are being housed in the Hamilton County Jail on charges of theft, evading arrest and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police.

They are scheduled to appear before an East Ridge Municipal Court judge Nov. 18.

The merchandise was recovered and returned to the store, according to police.
