Vice President Dick Cheney visited Chattanooga and North Georgia Friday to commemorate the Battle of Chickamauga that took place 145 years ago. Vice President Cheney’s great-grandfather, Samuel Fletcher Cheney, fought in that Civil War battle with an Ohio infantry unit.

Dear Mr. Cheaney, I am truely sorry I missed the opportunity to see you or possibly meet you in person. Chattanooga didn't give us much notice that you were coming. My father started a family tree, before he passed in December of last year but he found that my grandfather & the rest of our family fought for the North even living here in the South! They were very Christian oriented people that just didn't beleive in slavery.. Can you imagine fighting for the North & having to come home back to the South. Our Lord God must have had the same plan, because the Historians said we out fought the North Three to One. We just didn't have the money that the North had. Your Grandfather was very lucky to make it home, it being the bloodyist war in History.. Thank You for comming it was an honor that you cared enough to honor your Grandfather & make it here to Tn. & Ga. Sincerely Yours, Jeff Long
