Live art creation featured at Girls Inc.’s fundraiser

Guests at Girls Inc.’s “Blasts Off” fundraiser may watch while local artists Jake Kelley and Gabriel Negrete create a painting during the fundraiser at the Creative Discovery Museum on Friday.

Their project will then be sold during a live auction. A drawing from Chattanoogan Mimi Herbert, whose work is featured at the Smithsonian Institution and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., will also be sold during the live auction.

During a silent auction, gift baskets, tickets, certificates, golf packages, paintings, china, purses and wine will be up for bids.

“We’ve added additional fun programming to Blasts Off!,” said Adrienne Royer, director of development and communications. “We’ll have a video-game lounge featuring a Wii tournament, ‘Guitar Hero’ and 1980s favorites, such as ‘PacMan.’ ”

Also, Girls Inc. members will lead guests through science experiments.

Tickets are $50 and include food from St. John’s Restaurant, Porter’s Steakhouse, Walden Club, Jet Stream Grill, Blue Orleans, Boathouse, Broad Street Grille and other local eateries. Proceeds from Blasts Off! benefit Girls Inc. programs, which serve girls ages 6-18 throughout Hamilton County.

Call 624-4757 to reserve tickets.
