Hamilton County Election Commission takes no action on Healy case

by Matt Wilson

Hamilton County election commissioners this morning declined to take a vote on whether former Parks and Recreation Director Rob Healy is eligible to run for mayor because he has not yet filed qualifying papers in the race.

Commissioners said there is no need to vote until Mr. Healy has filed. Charlotte Mullis-Morgan, chief deputy elections administrator, said Mr. Healy picked up his qualifying papers last week.

Questions have arisen as to whether Mr. Healy, who moved back to Chattanooga in February, has lived in the city long enough to be eligible for the office.

Jerry Summers, attorney for the election commission, said he believes Mr. Healy has not lived in the city long enough to be eligible, but stated that a court of law would have to make the final determination.
