Anne Braly — Table 2 is one of those restaurants that, I will admit, I overlook when deciding on a lunch place. It’s tucked out of sight from the main drag, which is unfortunate. Still, the food has made a name for itself. For example, the chicken scaloppine I had was one of the best lunches I’ve had in a while. It was really good — a tender fried chicken breast with a lemon-caper sauce, served with cheesey polenta and broccoli — but now the guilt has set in. Probably wasn’t quite as calorie-laden as that burger and huge serving of fries that passed by our table, making my mouth water as it went.
Holly Leber — After my lunch of pepper and peach gazpacho with creme fraiche and puff pastry quesedillas with goat cheese and mango, I’m definitely having a salad for dinner tonight. The soup had a pleasing, mild flavor. Gazpacho can be overpowering at times, but this pureed version was flavorful without being biting. The quesadillas were an unusual combination with the mango and goat cheese, and very rich. I don’t generally prefer rich, buttery foods, so this was a real indulgence.
Anne — I think any meal at Table 2 is an indulgence. The decor is so dramatically different from other restaurants around. And I like the fact that there are plenty of tables outside where you can eat in a more natural setting. And even though it’s near busy 11th Street, the traffic isn’t so bad that you feel like you’re eating in the middle of a speedway. Prices aren’t that cheap, though. So I wonder if it’s a place anyone could dine on a regular basis, given today’s economy? I mean, I started lunch with an $8 salad with sugared pecans, spinach and gorgonzola, which was definitely worth it as far as flavor goes. But it wasn’t big enough to make it a meal.
Holly — This is definitely not a regular lunch place, but as an occasional treat or a nice meal out with a friend or a date, it’s doable if I budget the rest of the week. My meal, including soup, main course, drink and side salad, with tax and tip, came to about $18. Table 2 will go on my list of options for guests visiting from out of town. I don’t mind cutting a couple corners elsewhere to have the occasional nice meal out; it seems like a fair exchange. If you’re the same way, Table 2 is a good splurge.
