A disturbance call at 4217 12th Ave. ended peacefully Saturday night despite police not being able to locate the suspect, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Jerri Weary said.
Police were called to the residence around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call of shots fired, she said. Once on-scene, police spoke to Charles Vandergriff, who said he had been in an argument with his ex-girlfriend and her uncle, Freddie Grady Smith. During the argument, Mr. Smith got out a gun and fired shots at Vandergriff and retreated to his home, Sgt. Weary said.
When police arrived at the residence, they were unable to get Mr. Smith to come out. The SWAT team then was called in to make initial contact with Mr. Smith, Sgt. Weary said.
After an extended time without contact, police entered the residence and could not locate Mr. Smith, Sgt. Weary said.
Mr. Vandergriff was not injured during the altercation but a warrant was issued for Mr. Smith for the aggravated assault against Mr. Vandergriff, Sgt. Weary said.

this was so senseless and all over nonsense, it took officers away from areas that needed them alot more and i think whoever told swat team that the man was even in the house needs to be charged also for the false alarm, this area is getting worse and the landlords in this area need to start looking real good at backgrounds on who they rent too, police need to patrol more and start getting the folks that cause all the trouble and get them out of this area, it takes alot of time and money for what happened last and all over a man that someone lied and said he was even in the house when he wasnt, someone could have been seriously hurt or even killed, there is too much senseless killings going on in Chattanooga right now anyway, its getting so bad here.
