Julian Cordell

Julian M. Cordell, 90, of Chattanooga, died Saturday evening, April 4, 2009, in a local hospital.

A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, she was a member of Second Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, David E. Dill, Johnny Padgett and Dan Padgett.

Survivors include her husband, George L. Cordell; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and George Love; three grandchildren, James Love, Andrew (Jennifer) Love and Ryan (Celeste) Love; great-grandson, Christopher Demery; one nephew; several nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ernest Sutton officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Tony Cramer

Tony Lamar Cramer, 62, of Chattanooga, passed into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Sundy Daulton

Sundy Lynn Daulton, 58, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at her residence.

She was a member of Abba's House (Central Baptist Church). She was a retired schoolteacher with the Hamilton County Board of Education. She loved scrap booking and "Dancing with the Stars."

She was preceded in death by her father, Burton L. Osborn.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Daulton; daughter, Carole Megan (Chad) Suttles; sons, Jason Scott (Stephanie) Villers, and Garrett (Missy) Robinette; mother, Carole and Edward H. Hurley; brothers, Ted (Pamela) Osborn, of Boulder, Colo., and Jim Osborn, of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Ashley Lynn and Dylan Uriah Villers and Chagan Suttles; nieces, Lyndsy and Kelly Osborn.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Marcus Clagg and Larry Griffith officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Laxmiben Desai

Laxmiben Desai, 85, of Hixson, died Saturday, April 4, 2009.

She was a member of the GSET Center.

Survivors include four sons, four daughters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. -1 p.m. today, April 6, 2009, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

Doris Fleming

Doris Fleming, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in a local health care facility.

Doris was a member of Sale Creek Presbyterian Church for many years, prior to becoming a member of Chattanooga's Second Presbyterian Church. She was employed with Loveman's Department Stores and later by Interstate Life Insurance Co.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas K. and Effie Alexander Fleming.

Doris is survived by her brothers, William C. (Gwen) and Gordon (June) Fleming; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Doris will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Welch Rogers Cemetery in Sale Creek with the Rev. James A. Davenport officiating.

Bella Gordon

Julia Bella Shavin Gordon, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Mrs. Gordon most recently resided in Dayton, Ohio, the former proprietor of Posh Papers, a business which she successfully built from scratch and so attentively nurtured.

Mrs. Gordon was born May 29, 1926, in Chattanooga and was a graduate of Chattanooga High School's class of 1944. Bella freely gave her very big heart to everyone, always placing her own needs secondary to that of others. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she lived life to the fullest possible and always enjoyed the company of others.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max Gordon; as well as her father, the late Louis Shavin; and mother, Annie Shavin, both of Chattanooga. She also was preceded in death by brothers, Bernard (Bucky) Shavin and Sam Shavin.

She is survived by daughter, Vicki Peal, of Dayton, Ohio; son-in-law, Leonard Peal, of Dayton, Ohio; son, Bruce Gordon, of Atlanta; grandson, Seth Peal, of South Florida; and granddaughters, Laurie Peal, of Atlanta, and Robyn Peal, of San Francisco, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at Shari Zion Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, with Rabbi William Tepper officiating.

Lucy Hale

Lucy Marie Hale, 80, a lifelong resident of Hixson, died Friday, April 3, 2009, in Nashville.

She was a teacher in the Hamilton County Schools for 44 years. She taught at Lupton City, Rivermont and DuPont schools. She was a graduate of Hixson High School and a member of North Hamilton Church of Christ. Her undergraduate and graduate degrees were from Middle Tennessee State University; postgraduate work was at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and UTC.

Miss Hale was reared by her late father, William Marion Hale, and late stepmother, Flora Long Hale. Her mother was the late Una Alma Hixson Hale. Her grandparents were the late John F. Hixson and the late Maggie Jackson Hixson and the late Clinton and Julia Hale of Atlanta.

She is survived by close cousins, Ron Long, of Pensacola, Fla., Alma Hixon, of Hixson, Velma Hixson Masiers, of Signal Mountain, Dorothy Hixson Brown, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Douglas Hixson, of Hixson, and the families of her late cousin, Bill Hale, Cleveland, Tenn., Peggy Walker Cross, and Flora Sue Walker Boyd, of Chattanooga; and extended family, Ramona and Wayne Vandergriff and family of Hixson and Tonia Brown, Valley Head, Ala.

As an artist, Miss Hale exhibited in early local art shows and the Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga. She tutored students in art and creative writing. As a writer, she wrote numerous curriculum studies. Her professional writing included "Teaching with the Newspaper in the Classroom" for The Chattanooga Times and articles published nationally in the Association for Childhood Education Journal. As a journalist, she edited "The Sidelines," the Middle Tennessee State University student newspaper and served briefly as a copy rewriter for the Rutherford County Courier in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

As a historian and member, she researched and compiled histories for the Chattanooga Doll Club and the Zeta Chapter of Tennessee Alpha Delta Kappa for outstanding women in educators.

Miss Hale received a George Washington Teacher Medal of Honor from the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge for her promotion of activities and programs to foster in students a sense of patriotism and appreciation for their freedom heritage. She received an award from the Tennessee Parent Teacher Association for her outstanding work in her school.

Miss Hale was a founding member and past president of the Chattanooga Chapter of the International Reading Association, was actively involved in local, state and international professional educational organizations.

In later years in Miss Hale's career, she became a school librarian. Her goal was to keep alive in children a love for reading, literature, and learning.

Frank Hutcheson

W. Frank Hutcheson, of Lookout Mountain, died Friday, April 3, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

He was the son of the late John L. Hutcheson Jr. and the late Hazel Montague Hutcheson.

Mr. Hutcheson was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain, a graduate of McCallie School and attended Georgia Institute of Technology.

He was a well-known business and civic leader in Rossville and Walker County. He was a trustee of the Hazel Montague Hutcheson Foundation, as well as the Rossville Memorial Foundation, which was set up to serve the Walker County community. He was CEO and director of many companies, which included Rossville Development Co.; Sumter Farm and Stock Co., better known as Geiger, Alabama and Happy Valley Farms Inc.; as managing partner of HMS Cattle Co. He was recognized as "Breeder of the Year" by Beefmaster Breeders United which is a nation wide organization. He and his wife, Nancy, both served on the boards of BBU and SEBBA (Southeastern Beefmaster Breeders Association). He served as vice president of BBU in 2005 and had served on the board of Beefmaster Cattlemen LP and as secretary-treasurer of SEBBA. He was the recipient of the first SEBBA "Hall of Fame Award" in recognition of all his achievements and support of SEBBA and JR. SEBBA organizations.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Marks Hutcheson; two brothers, John L. Hutcheson III, Theodore M. Hutcheson; his sister, Hazel Hutcheson Meadow; and daughter, Patricia Hutcheson Zoanni.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Brown Hutcheson; children, Hazel Hutcheson (Mitchell) Bell, Katharine Hutcheson (Kirk) Sanford, Laura Hutcheson (Michael Eastman) Finch ; sister, Marion Housch (Bit) Hutcheson II; two stepdaughters, Beth Webb, of Atlanta, Taylor Gifford (Tom Ferris), of Bozeman, Mont.; and 13 grandchildren, Frank Bell, Mitchell Bell, Hayden Bell, Rye Sanford, Ishmael Sanford, Alex Sanford, Grace Sanford, Annie Sanford, Lewis Finch, Hayes Finch, Alex Zoanni, Taylor Webb and Graeme Webb; father-in-law, William G. Brown; brother-in-law, William G. (Diane) Brown Jr.; and beloved pet, "Remy"; sister-in-law, Mrs. John L. Hutcheson IV.

The family wants to thank Carolyn Lawrence for her devotion to Frank and his family for the past 36 years and to Tammy Wootten, Rita Lawson, Sabrina Tinker and Misty McMurray for the aid and support they have given him over the past two years.

The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. today, April 6, 2009, at 233 Fleetwood Drive, Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, April 6, 2009, at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Childers officiating.

Margaret Esther Manness, 75, of Hixson, died Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Michael Mooneyhan

Michael Wayne "Moon" Mooneyhan passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Erlanger hospital from injuries suffered in a motorcycle wreck.

Michael was employed by Moccasin Bend Mental Health and was previously employed by Johnson Mental Health. He was a member of New Home Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Robert Mooneyhan Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Theckla Kay West, of Trenton, Ga.; brother, Charles Robert (Melinda) Mooneyhan Jr.; nephew, Austin Robert Mooneyhan; fiancé, Claire Clarke; stepfather, Michael Matthew Tinker.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Naoma Whitaker

Naoma Lee Whitaker, 85, of Ooltewah, died Saturday morning, April 4, 2009, in a local health care facility.

A native of Meigs County, she had been a resident of the Chattanooga area most of her life. She was a member of the Dalewood Baptist Church.

She was the wife of the late Dewitt Whitaker and was preceded in death by two sons, Lamar Whitaker and Darrell Whitaker.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Larry Blalock, Ooltewah; and a son, Jeff Whitaker, Chattanooga; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Jay Ellis officiating.

DECATUR —Anita Justine Nelson Daniels, 67, died Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Melvin Lofty

JASPER -- Melvin Thomas Lofty, 72, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Bertie Lofty. Melvin was a member of the Jasper Seventh-day Adventist Church and a former member of the First Chattanooga Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a well-know gospel singer in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia and served in the National Guard for many years.

Melvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Bill Lofty.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina Kylene Arthur and son-in-law, Edmund, Rossville; son, Robert Troy Lofty, Tiftonia; daughter-in-law, Victoria Hobbs; brother, Lebron Lofty; grandchildren, Robert Joseph Lofty, Blake Arthur, Breanna Lofty and Emily Rae Arthur; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Jasper Seventh-day Adventist Church at a later date.

Juanita Johnson

ROSSVILLE -- Juanita Amerson Johnson, 72, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Wauchula, Fla., but moved to North Georgia at an early age and retired from Lake Winnie. She was of Baptist faith and enjoyed caring for her family and being with them while camping at Panama City Beach, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Amerson; sister, Laura Mae Drake; and brother, James Richard Amerson.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Cass Edward Johnson; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Browning, of Rossville, Sandi and Roddy Rikard, of South Carolina, Deena and Dean Pulver, of Rossville, Debbie and Bob Hicks, of Spring City, Tenn., and Suzzi Harper, of Rossville; brother, Raymond Amerson, of Rossville; grandchildren, Melissa Browning, Sherry Dalton, Scott Rikard, Chaz Rikard, Kurt Pulver, Chad Pulver, Cassie Keith, Jamie Goins, Bubba Ford, Zac Harper, Whitney Harper and Jay Harper; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today, April 6, 2009, and after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, with Brother Boo Acers officiating in the chapel of W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
