REGIONAL FISHING REPORT

CARTERS — The lake is at full pool and the water temperature is 57 degrees, according to Buddy Callahan at Bart’s Bait Shop. Some striper are being caught up river and in the back of the creeks fishing with trout or large gizzard shad. Not a lot of fish are being caught, but the ones that are tend to be good sized. Not many hybrids are being caught, but the state Department of Natural Resources is planning on double-stocking the lake with hybrids and striper this year. Bass are moving up on points and getting ready to spawn, and all fish moving to shallower water. Try a lot of different types of, to see what the fish are biting. Fish will continue to move as the water warms up. CENTER HILL — Fishing is fair. The water surface temperature is 56 degrees, and the lake is unstable. Several bass are being caught on spinnerbaits while fishing around laydown trees in the creeks. Some good smallmouth are being caught while Carolina rigging lizards on gravel banks in eight to 10 feet of water. A few walleye are being caught above Pate Ford on jigs.

CHICKAMAUGA — The water surface temperature is 60 degrees, and the lake is ahead of filling schedule and 1.6 feet below mean summer pool. Drifters and brush dippers are catching shallow water crappie in most areas of the lake. Minnows and/or jigs are being used. Bass are being caught along secondary drops and shallow bays on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and plastic worms. Some heavy bass are being caught. The number of bass that are being caught has slowed a little since the last report, but the fishing is still very good. Catfish are in the shallow bays and the water leading into the same. All the normal catfish baits are being used. White bass and a few rockfish are being caught in the area upstream from Eave’s bluff. White bass and rockfish are being caught while using jigs or shad. Only a few sauger anglers have been fishing in the most recent days with only mixed results. GUNTERSVILLE — Fishing has been good, according to Terri Campbell at Waterfront Grocery, despite windy conditions in the early part of the week. Bass are being found mainly in four to six feet of water near greener grass. Many bass are being caught in very shallow water using Bayou Boogies, red-eyed shad and lizards. Spinner baits are being used to catch deeper bass seven to eight feet deep. Crappie are being caught near bridges and over grass beds in four to eight feet of water using baby shad, minnows and crickets.

HIWASSEE — Crappie are starting to spawn and many are being caught, according to Charlene Butler at Hiwassee Marine Bait and Tackle. Good-sized crappie can be caught while trolling on gitsits, minnows and pink and white jigs. Bass hitting on the flats on shallow running crank baits. Catching a lot of bass on points. Catfish on cutbait and are starting to be more active. WATTS BAR — The water surface temperature is 58 degrees. The lake is ahead of the filling schedule and almost to normal summer level. A few striped bass are being caught in the upper arms of the lake.Those areas upstream from the I-75 Bridge have been the most productive. Shad is the better bait choice.
