“I am waiting to wake up at any moment now. It’s like it’s a dream,” Miss Henley said Friday night in a phone interview from Nassau. “I’m very excited. I guess God has a plan for me.”
Miss Teen Georgia Brooke Fletcher, of Peachtree City, Ga., who was Miss Henley’s roommate in Nassau, was first runner-up. The Miss Teen Tennessee and Miss Teen Georgia pageants are run by Kim Greenwood, wife of country music star Lee Greenwood.
Miss Henley, who recently graduated from Cumberland County High School, had been planning to study graphic design in Nashville but she will put off school for a year to fulfill her duties as Miss Teen USA.
She will travel to New York today for interviews and orientation about her duties for the next year.
Mr. Henley, who won the Golf Channel’s Big Break II competition in 2004, has been a caddie for several PGA pro golfers, and he was caddie for Brian Gay in June when he won the PGA Tour’s St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
