UTC to host Web education summit

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will host a group of international collaborators working to create standards for online education Wednesday through Saturday.

The We Rock Summit will bring together 10 to 15 Web professionals who aim to introduce standards-based Web education, according to a news release from the organizers. At the heart of that movement is the Open Web Education Alliance, an organization with membership from Australia to Japan and Sweden to the United States.

The summit will be highlighted by the kickoff of the WE Rock Tour, a public event scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hunter Museum of American Art.

Six presenters, including representatives from Adobe, Yahoo and Opera, will discuss the past, present and future of Web education.

The tour kickoff is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow.

The attendees intend to distill their discussions into a draft that will contain specific recommendations for ways in which colleges and universities can create standardized Web education curricula to better prepare students for the workplace.

The summit is being made possible in part by grants from the Benwood and Lyndhurst foundations. Additional information is available on the WE Rock Summit Web site, www.webeducationrocks.com.
