DUNLAP: CNN visits yard sale

The Sequatchie County-Dunlap Chamber of Commerce office received 11 applications for the organization's executive director position. The 11-member board of directors was scheduled to meet Aug. 10 to review and evaluate the applications and would like to name the new director on or before Sept. 1.

CNN had a crew in Dunlap on Aug. 7 to cover the Highway 127 Yard Sale. CNN's first transmission from Dunlap was at about 5:20 a.m., and they were on the air at least hourly until about noon. Rob Marciano, news and weather anchor for CNN, did the telecasts, while John Murgatroyd was on hand as producer. They were super-nice people and said they would return next year.

It is the time of the year when gardens and orchards are at their peak. I have been fortunate enough to have home-grown tomatoes and biscuits for breakfast for the past three weeks. A good yield of Irish potatoes is said to be 10 times more than you plant. My yield this year was 14 times more. I wait until Sept. 1 to sow turnip greens. They seem to do better in cool weather.
