MTSU student dies after arrest, TBI says

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an MTSU student who died after being arrested and booked into the Rutherford County Jail, according to TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm.

Andron Reed, of Memphis, was arrested Friday night by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and charged with driving under the influence, weapons violations and evading arrest, according to the Tennessean newspaper in Nashville.

According to Helm, Reed was combative during the arrest and while being booked at the jail.

He was found unresponsive by a jail nurse and taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, where he died Saturday afternoon, Helm said.

The TBI will turn over its investigation to the district attorney general, who will decide if charges will be made against anyone at the jail, she said.
