Alabama settling its lineup

While Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban hasn't revealed his starting linebackers yet, some clues are beginning to emerge.

TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama coach Nick Saban has not named a starting group of linebackers yet, but a few members of the unit gave clues as to where the competition is headed.

Eryk Anders said he played the majority of the snaps with the first-team at the Jack linebacker position while Courtney Upshaw played with the top-group at the position some as well. Anders made the most of his time in the scrimmage by collecting three sacks among his four tackles.

Brandon Fanney, last season's starter at the hybrid position that combines a defensive end with an outside linebacker, was kicked off the team in the offseason.

In April's A-Day game, Anders also played with the first-team at jack when Fanney was suspended.

Cory Reamer, last year's starting Will linebacker, provided further clues towards this season's lineup.

"We've got a pretty solid group of starters with Dont'a (Hightower), Ro (McClain), Eryk (Anders) and me," Reamer said. "We've got a lot of younger guys that are stepping up and playing well. They've gotten their feet wet I guess. We've also got enough depth that if something happens, we can rotate guys around and fill positions where we need to."

The stat sheet, that included the top 10 tacklers and released by Alabama media relations, did not include Reamer or Upshaw. McClain, the Mike linebacker, led all tacklers with eight followed by Hightowner who tallied seven, two of which went for a loss including one sack.

School's in session

The Crimson Tide completed its third and final two-a-day Monday as it prepares to start classes.

The 9:30 a.m. practice in full pads was followed by a 7:30 p.m. workout in shoulder pads and helmets. Tuesday's 2:30 p.m. practice will be the final opportunity to get work in before starting the academic routine Wednesday.

When school is in session, the team transitions to the once-daily practice scheduled for 3:30 every afternoon. The only deviation from that practice time comes Saturday when the team participates in its second scrimmage at 2:30 p.m. in Bryant Denny Stadium.

Tickets still available

Tickets are still available for two Alabama home games. The university announced Aug. 14 that Florida International (Sept. 12) and Tennessee-Chattanooga (Nov. 21) had returned part of their allotment and those seats would be available for sale through the Alabama ticket office.

As of Monday afternoon, those remaining tickets had not been sold out.

The $45 tickets are available for purchase on rolltide.com or by calling (205) 348-BAMA or 1-877-TIDETIX.
