Parker’s ex-wife cites violent incidents

by Chloé Morrison

LaFAYETTE, Ga. — Prosecutors in the Sam Parker murder trial today called Mr. Parker’s ex-wife, Keila Beard to testify about two violent encounters she had with the former LaFayette police officer.

Mr. Parker’s trial on charges of killing his wife, Walker County 911 operator Theresa Parker, is in its second week in Walker County Superior Court.

Mrs. Beard said that Mr. Parker once dragged her by the hair and handcuffed her to the bed. Another time, she said, he choked her and threatened to kill her.

Mr. Parker's lawyers did not question Mrs. Beard before the lunch break.

Earlier this morning, several of Mrs. Parker’s co-workers testified about how Mr. Parker called them at the 911 to pump them for information about his wife. They said he thought was having an affair. The 911 operators said they did not think Mrs. Parker was having an affair.

District Attorney Leigh Patterson played the calls between Mr. Parker and the 911 operators for the jury.

Mrs. Beard's testimony continues after lunch.
