LaFAYETTE, Ga. — After nearly three hours of deliberation today, the jury in the Sam Parker murder trial broke off for the day shortly before 5 p.m.
Mr. Parker, a former LaFayette police officer, is being tried on a charge of murdering his wife, Theresa Parker, in March, 2007. He has pleaded not guilty.
The jury of six women and six men heard opening arguments this morning and began deliberations about 2 p.m. Around 3:30, jurors sent a message that they had some questions, and they asked to look at some of the evidence.
Jury members requested hard copies of electronic photos shown during testimony, which the judge granted. Jurors also asked for additional evidence, such as transcripts of interviews and additional pictures, which don't exist. Judge Jon “Bo” Wood told the jury they are not allowed to ask for more evidence.
“You have everything that was admitted as evidence,” he said. “There is not going to be any more evidence.”
At 4:45 p.m., jurors came back and told the judge they had not made a decision. They will begin deliberating again about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
