Marie Allen

Hattie “Marie” Allen, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at her residence with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be held today at noon in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Minister Edwin Prescott officiating.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today up to the hour of service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the employees and Physicians of Park Ridge Medical Center and the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for their kindness and compassionate care throughout her illness.

Jeannie Black

Jeannie “La Paisana” Black, 27, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in a local hospital.

Jeannie was a loving daughter, sister, fianceé and friend and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

A native of Fort Pierce, Fla., she was a graduate of Westwood High School and moved to the Chattanooga area six years ago.

Jeannie was employed by the Chattanooga Times Free-Press for the past three years working in the Classified Department and she was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her mother, Michelle Emmert, of Rossville; father, Jack Black, Fort Pierce, Fla.; sisters, Victoria Emmert and Brenda and Juan Jimenez, both of Rossville; half sisters, Jessica and Stacy Black, Fort Pierce, Fla.; fiancé, Manolo Roblero, Chattanooga; grandmother, Lillian Nicklo Downs, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandfathers, Richard Black and Edward Emmert, both of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one nephew, two nieces; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Ted Verville officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Isaac “Ike” Bryant, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Powell; sisters, Betty Gibbs and Connie Gaskins.

Survivors included: one son, four daughters, sisters, Martha Carter, Virgia Adamson, and Corine Powell; brothers, Ivery Bryant, Tifton, Ga., Eddie Powell, Nashville, James Powell and Spencer Powell, and Cass Powell, Knoxville. A very devoted friend, Mary Lou Thompson, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services was held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

Katherine Bunch

Katherine Darlene Bunch, 51, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

She was of the Baptist faith and attended Coal Hill Baptist church as a child in Morgan County, Tenn. Before her illness she attended Life Gate Baptist Church of Hixson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Rayder Sheldon; sisters, Anita Jean Sheldon and Sandra Sue Sheldon; brother, Charles Alvin Sheldon.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Wilbert Bunch; two daughters, Charlotte Renae Bunch and Stacey Mietta Bunch; and one son, Eric Lamar Bunch; one step-son, Anthony Christopher Bunch; grandchildren, Jada Rene Hunter, and Imani Bunch; parents, Kenneth Anderson Sheldon; sisters, Patsy Carter, Sharon Cates, Barbara Bailey; brothers, Kenny Sheldon, Glen Sheldon, Danny Joe Sheldon and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the North Chapel with the Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating.

Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Hubert Busby

Hubert “Buzz” Busby, of Valle De Oro, Texas, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2009, in a local nursing home.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy A. Ford, Signal Mountain; sister, Jane Bearden, Denver, Colo.; grandsons, Sherman J. Ford, Signal Mountain and Terry L. Ford, Fairfax, Va.; and granddaughter, Debbie Daniel, Hixson.

Otis Cornett Jr.

Otis “Papaw” Cornett Jr., 87, of Chattanooga, passed away the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, with members of his family by his side.

Mr. Cornett served his country in World War II as a U.S. Army staff sergeant, spending time in the islands of the South Pacific Ocean. He documented his war experiences by keeping a daily journal, something that he cherished dearly.

He was born the youngest of three children in Chipley, Ga. and was a faithful member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Chattanooga for nearly 50 years.

He retired from the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant in 1985.

Otis loved family events, cooking on his custom-built grill, and was an avid sports fan and lifelong supporter of the Chattanooga Lookouts with his late wife, Sara.

He was preceded in death by Sara Webb Cornett, his wife of 50 years; older brother Billy Cornett; and sister, Bonnie Hadaway.

Survivors include his three daughters, Susan (Mike) Romedy, Kathy (David) Holt and Jan Cornett; grandchildren, Josh Holt, Erin (Robert) Newcomb, Allison (John) Foreman and Andrew Holt; great-grandchildren, Luke Newcomb, and Beau and Brody Foreman.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be held noon Friday at Ascension Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Fugate officiating.

Gayle Frueh

Gayle Wilborn Frueh, 59, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Gayle had been organist for Brainerd United Methodist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Thaddaeus Episcopal Church. She was a former winner of the national American Guild of Organists’ competition in Boston, Mass. She was an active volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and Hospice of Chattanooga. Gayle has played for the Backstage Theater, the Chattanooga Little Theater, and the Chattanooga Symphony Opera.

Surviving relatives; husband, Joseph “Joe” Frueh, of Munich, Germany, parents, Raymond Ray and Maggie Wilborn, of Chattanooga; daughter, Anna Carol Frueh, of Washington, D.C.; brother, David (Jean Anne) Wilborn, of Chattanooga; nieces, Bailey Wilborn and Lauren Allen; grandnephew, Logan James Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Father Hugh Jones, officiating.

Edward Thomas “Eddie” Hawkins, 49, of Soddy-Daisy, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Thomas “Tony” Hawkins; sister, Tammye Hawkins.

He is survived by his mother, Judith “Judy” Maskevich; brother, Robert Michael “Mike” Hawkins; sisters, Seresa Gail (Chris) Grant, Lisa Brewer; nieces, Toni (Brian) Standifer, Grace (Jody) Johnson, Emily (Rusty) Johnson, Taylor Grant, Mattie Grant; nephew, Cody Grant; great-niece, Kylee “Little Bit” Johnson, several cousins, all of Soddy-Daisy.

Jane Gentry Holland, 84, of Sale Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

A lifelong resident of Sale Creek, she is survived by her daughter Nina Jo Holland, of Sale Creek; brother, George Gentry, of Virginia; sisters, Bobbie Vandergriff, of Sale Creek and Delphia Ford, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a special niece, Jennifer White; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Rhea Memory Gardens.

A remembrance gathering will be held at the home of Bobbie Vandergriff from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Clyde Mosier Jr.

Clyde Eugene Mosier Jr., 33, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at a local hospital.

He was the Catholic faith and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Alma Nunnelley, and Raymond and Viola Mosier.

He is survived by his wife, Charla Ann Patterson Mosier; daughter, Ciara Patterson; son, Brian Jackson; parents, Clyde Mosier Sr. and Darlene Nunnelley Mosier; brother, Joshua Levon Mosier; sisters, Rebecca Ann Mosier, Theresa Marie Mosier, Joanna Gail Mosier, Samantha Scheree Mosier, Viola Mae Madrano, Christy Lenna Beck; several nieces and nephews.

Tara Sexton

Tara Anne Bonse Sexton, 27, of Lake Leelanau, Mich. passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009.

Tara loved animals, yoga, traveling, cooking, painting and especially creating beautiful artistic jewelry. She was a talented, loving woman always giving of herself to others. She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Survivors include her father, Thomas Bonse Sr.; and stepmother, Karen Bonse, of Chattanooga; mother, Amy Bonse, of Oxford, Ala.; brother Thomas Bonse II, of Washington D.C. area; grandmother Judith Bonse, of Lake Leelanau, Mich.; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends worldwide.

A private memorial service will be held in her honor.

Lou Trimble

Lou Gass Trimble, 79, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009.

She was an active member of Central Church of Christ since 1951 and the Ladies Bible Class.

Lou was a thoughtful, bright-eyed and cheerful soul, full of songs about her Savior. Lou loved to laugh, listen, encourage, and stay focused on the positive. Lou enjoyed the present moment like no other! Lou received many as her own with strong unconditional love and boundless giving. The door to her heart, hearth and home was always open. The joy she left in our hearts (and tummies) will endure forever. We know she has a spot in the heavenly choir.

She was the wife of 58 years to Arch E. Trimble Jr.

She was associated with the Arch E. Trimble Insurance Agency for more than 30 years. She was a member of Insurance Women of Chattanooga and was a board member and secretary of the Friends of the Library and was a member of the Golden Heirs Investment Club. She attended David Liscomb College.

She was the daughter of the late Hurshal C. and Beauty Lockwood Gass. Her son, Dr. Steve Trimble; and grandson, Tommy Trimble preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, Arch E. Trimble III and his wife, Vanessa, of Chattanooga, Tom Trimble and his wife, Cynthia, of Signal Mountain, Beth Geary and her husband, Tim, of Atlanta; Frank Trimble and his wife, Cheryl, of Chattanooga; daughter-in-law, Joann Trimble, of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren, Bard Trimble, Arch E. Trimble IV, Reed Trimble, Jeff Trimble, Jay Trimble, Chase Trimble and Sarah Geary; sister, Beth Werndli and her husband, Jim of Maryville; brother, Dr. Harry Gass and his wife, Donna, of Ringgold.

WHITESIDE — John B. “Johnny” Brackett, 68, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

Mr. Brackett was a carpenter for over 30 years and a member of Carpenters’ Local 74.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl and Inez Camp Brackett; brothers, James H., Robert and Carl E. Brackett.

He is survived by his sons, John (Barbara) Brackett Jr. and Luke (Amy) Brackett, both of Whiteside; daughters, Michelle (Monnie) Whitfield, of Whiteside and Nikki (Jason) Phillips, of Cookville; brothers, Roy (Carolyn) Brackett, Joe (Catherine) Brackett, Richard (Diane) Brackett, all of Jasper and David (Helen) Brackett, of Chattanooga; sisters, Barbara (Eugene) Roach, of Ringgold and Glynda (Ivan) Spencer, of East Ridge; grandchildren, Jonathon, Katelyn, Richard, Cecilia, Amber and Brittany.

Mr. Curtis was retired from the maintenance department with Coffee County Hospital.

GAINESBORO — Jacque Gayler Williams, 59, formerly of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.

Jacque attended “The Bridge” Church of Gainesboro, Tenn. and was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Gayler; her husband, George Arvil Williams; son, Timothy Shane Williams; and grandson, Josh Cronan.

FORT OGLETHORPE — Marion Louise Campbell, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.

She has been a resident of Fort Oglethorpe since 1994 after moving from Carbondale, Pa. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Oglethorpe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Hazel Campbell; and brother, Donald Campbell.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Bert Lohr, of Fort Oglethorpe; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, and prior to the service Saturday.

She was preceded in death by husband, Roy Allen Dill Sr.; and a son, Allen Dill Jr.

Survived granddaughter, Tiffany Nicole Dill Byrd and her husband, Charles Byrd Jr.; great-grandchildren, Charles Edward (Cheney) Byrd III, Ian Gabriel Dill-Pennington Byrd; brother, Rev. Lewis Bledsoe; several nieces and nephews.

ROSSVILLE — Ruth N. Grant, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in a local hospital.

A lifelong resident of North Georgia, she was an active member of Lakeview First Baptist Church. Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Grant Jr.; sons, Lloyd Clinton Grant and Jerry L. Grant.

Survivors include son, Thomas Wayne Grant, Michigan; daughter, Sonja (Wayne) Alverson, Rossville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

LaFAYETTE — James Harry Hootman Jr., 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Hootman Sr.; mother, Opal V. McKinny Hootman; and brother, Ronnie Hootman.

Survived by loving wife of 51 years, Nancy McAfoos Hootman; daughters, Kristy Johnson, Ringgold, Ga., and Belinda Cunningham, Jackson, Ga.; son, James Paul Hootman, Cummings, Ga.; sisters, Shirley Kovacicek, Fayetteville, Ga., Glenda Stanko, Las Vegas, Nev., and Joyce Bromley, Riverdale, Ga.; brother, Bruce Hootman, Warner Robbins, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

ROSSVILLE — Joe Randall “Randy” Lawrence, 52, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

He was born in Chattanooga, and had lived most of his life in the Rossville and Lakeview area. He was of the Class of 1975 of Lakeview High School where he was in the F.F.A. and the BETA Clubs. He had also graduated from Florida College in Tampa, Fla., with a A.S. Degree in Chemistry. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He had resided in Robinson, Ill., for several years. He recently worked for Powder Processing Technology in Valparaiso, Ind. He had also worked for D.M. Steward Co. in Chattanooga, for 14 years. He was a member of The Net Church in East Ridge, where he enjoyed being part of the Hospitality Team. His pastimes where golf, tennis, billiard pool and he was an avid reader of Science Fiction.

He is survived by his wife, Kathie Darline Ellison Lawrence; and son, Eric Brandon Lawrence, both of Rossville; parents, Joe Lee and Glenna Waters Lawrence, of Rossville; brother and sister-in-law, Michael Scott and Pamela Sullins Lawrence, of White House, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Amber Lawrence, of Sumner, Ill.; grandchildren, Savana Lawrence and Ayden Brenton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Charles Carson, of Chickamauga, Ga., Wendy and Kevin Featherston, of Chattanooga; nephews, Maxwell Scott Lawrence, Jon Carson, Chandler Featherston; nieces, Julie Overall, Emily Featherston; great-nieces and nephews, Bain Carson, Courtney and Hannah Overall.
