about Clay Bennett...
The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Always the competitor, but who would have thought that Tiger would vie for the Breeders' Cup.
:-) I hear he's going into politics now..
From an iconic role model to...
Funny cartoon, Clay! The mud flaps on Tiger's golf cart are perfect!
Just like any of our 'fallen' ministers, politicians, or so many other professional athletes, he must have begun believing his own press. "A private matter"...really.
I am so glad he brought "a breath of renewed life" to the game of golf. However, he has diminished his stature as a man, husband, and father. If all they say is indeed factual.
Oh well, there are still the memories of such greats as Snead, Palmer, and Nicklaus. Now there is a group of "MEN."
Merry Christmas, Woody
John Edwards, Mark Sanford, John Ensign, and now Tiger Woods! Boy, cheating husbands sure have been in the news a lot this year.
With stories like those, added to the 50% divorce rate in the United States, one has to wonder if we homosexuals could be any worse at this whole marriage thing than you straight folks seem to be?
The real question is, "What has the non-news coverage of Tiger Woods' personal affairs, down to the dirtiest details and innuendos, covered up?"
IOW, what have Dear Leader and his minions been up to this time?
Clay, I am surprised you stooped to this one. Is Tiger a Republican or something? [Your cartoon IS funny, though. Perhaps that was your intent this time?]
The tiger head club warmer I understand, but what is the other one? Looks a bit like a turkey.
Or an elephant.
woody wrote, "Oh well, there are still the memories of such greats as Snead, Palmer, and Nicklaus. Now there is a group of "MEN."
Who's to say that Nicklaus, Palmer and Snead didn't cheat on their wives?
Matters such as these used to be seen as private affairs. The press didn't inquire about them, and if they found out, they certainly didn't pursue the story. They handled politicians the same way. If someone was a womanizer, or an alcoholic, it was sen as a private matter and unrelated to his role as an elected official. If someone didn't get arrested for their character flaws, chances were, they would never be reported.
Not today. Now, we live in the 24 hour news cycle, with security cameras on every corner and a video recorder in every cell phone. We have magazines that will pay for juicy tidbits about any entertainer, athlete, or politician. And despite our collective wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth about the intrusive media... we love this stuff.
As a society, we love to see the mighty fall. Any time someone is viewed as accomplished, privileged, or exalted in some way, any reporting that proves them to be mortal, or flawed is welcome news to us flawed mortals.
There are no secrets, or private matters anymore. E-mail, voicemail, security cameras and electronic record keeping have made cartain of that. So, we should hold on to the seemingly flawless heros of our past. They're likely to be the last of their kind.

Like you, I wondered about the head cover on the golf clubs. So, I did an image search for "Tiger Woods golf bag". Just to show you the attention to detail that Clay Bennett employs in his work, here's what I found:

Ollie, if you have PROOF, or even substantiated evidence the three MEN I mentioned earlier aren't exactly what I purported them to be, please feel free to tell us all about it.
However, I don't believe you do. So, I am left with only the thought that you had to come up with something to say...no matter what.
That is no reason to besmearch a person's name or reputation. I'm sure you wouldn't want people treating you that way. So I won't.
Merry Christmas, Woody
Kind of brings new meaning to the Nike "Just Do It" campaign.
Know why Tiger smashed into a fire hydrant AND a tree?
Couldn't decide whether to hit an iron or a wood.
Lightnup..... that is just the greatest! Your handle here suits you well. Thanks for the early morning laugh!!
By the way, I don't think that Tiger is much different than a lot of men out there. He is just in the public eye, therefore got caught. Oh yeah, women cheat, too.
Merry Christmas AND Happy Holidays to all!
The difference between a car and a golf ball, is Tiger can drive a golf ball 400 yards.
No reason for serious discussion here, as this scandal doesn't hurt anyone except the parties involved. We can all joke at the hapless golf star who got caught with his pants down and paid the price. There may have been a double standard on humor however, had the roles been reversed and his wife showed up at the hospital with a backwards "Ping" imprint on her head.
Now we see why they don't allow carts on the PGA tour.
Its easy not to be a hypocrite when you have no values. A virtuous life is one between setbacks.
Holy smokes, woody, I didn't make any claims about the three golf greats you mentioned, other than how do we know they weren't philanderers? This question was not meant to impugn the morality of these heroic golfers. I'm sure that Nicklaus, Palmer, and Snead are as pure as the driven snow.
My post, was also not some attempt to "come up with something to say...no matter what" as you wrote. It was a just an observation on the evolution of mass media and its detrimental effect on personal privacy. My comment was a simple statement of fact- that it was easier to get away with indiscretions back in the olden days, than it is today.
I did not say that the any of the holy trinity of golf had ever engaged in an extramarital affair. I was just saying that if any of them did, it probably wouldn't have been reported, and thus would have had little effect on their public image.
"So, we should hold on to the seemingly flawless heros of our past. They're likely to be the last of their kind."
Indeed, OllieH, indeed. Our media goes out of its way to destroy any hero-figure...unless he is a football/baseball/basketball sports figure doing drugs, in which case they idolize him. No wonder our kids are wandering around in search of...something, and they know not what.
Thanks for the link. Looks like a kiwi or [if you are an old crock like me], a watchbird.
Clay, you are soooo talented! Your work has brought new life to the grandma/grandpa readership of TFP. As one of those older folks, the TFP should build around your work, and revamp their old paper.
Guy's, there is an old saying: A whiskey glass and a woman's a--, will make a horses a-- out of you.
Tiger wasn't right for cheating on his wife, but just out of curiosity, for those of you tearing him apart, how many of you have cheated on your wife (or girlfriend)? Really don't care or expect an answer. Not my business. Just listen to Your answer.
None of us are close to being perfect and we all have skeletons in our closets.
I pray for the sake of their children, that if there are any truths to the accusations, that he and his wife are able to find a way to get past all of this and to put it behind them.
Tiger wasn't right for cheating on his wife, but just out of curiosity, for those of you tearing him apart, how many of you have cheated on your wife (or girlfriend)? Really don't care or expect an answer. Not my business. Just listen to Your answer...........After 27 years of marriage the answer is NO.
This is a private matter, the same as Bristol's pregnancy.
SBauer asks, "how many of you have cheated on your wife (or girlfriend)? "
If you really want to compare apples to apples, you might ask how many of us have cheated on our wives (at least) four times in the first five years of the marriage?
Merry Christmas from Mr. & Mrs. Tiger Woods;

Tiger Woods is good looking, on the road 80% of the year and has 'more money than God.' I am sure he can line up 10 beautiful women a night, 365 days a year. Stop comparing your lives to his. It's real easy to be faithful, when no one else wants you.
champ1-
Nice to see a post from you again. It's been a long time.
And to paraphrase Ron White
"Guys I have the ultimate way to keep from getting caught F@#$ your wife.
I've never gotten in trouble getting caught with my wife by the maid."
I don't think our so called hero's have changed. I believe the media has changed. They don't protect the way they use to.
I can't resist. The Tiger has become a Cheetah. Money can buy anything for anybody, whether it's for Tiger or Elvis or Michael Jackson. Positively, may I suggest viewing the movie, "The Blind Side". It's inspirational without being patronizing. By the way, the Baltimore Ravens play the GB Packers tonight and Michael Oher, for whom the movie is about, is the starting left tackle for the Ravens.
Hey Ollieh!
Yeah. I've been busy. Plus, I gotta watch my blood pressure:-P
