The Scovie Awards are the equivalent of the Oscar Awards for makers of all things hot and spicy. So, it was great news when Suck Creek Sauces, originators of the Original Suck Creek Hot Wing Sauce, took home second place in the wing sauce category. The local company put its sauce up against more than 600 others which were tasted and voted on by a panel of the country’s leading culinary experts with fiery palates. Now, a Scovie banner hangs proudly in Suck Creek Sauce’s office. Great for owners John Lunn and Dave Dockery. And even better for us since we can get it locally at Greenlife. Or, if you want someone else to do the cooking, Market Street Tavern at Miller Plaza uses it on their wings, and the newly opened Five 8 Burrito on Highway 58 across from Central High School makes some killer burritos using the wing sauce, too.
Now, for more winning news. Mayfield Dairy scooped up two awards during the recent Tennessee State Fair in Nashville. It’s vanilla and chocolate ice creams took first place for outstanding quality. You know where you can find Mayfield’s. Almost everywhere. And it’s interesting that, with all the fancy, everything-added-to-it ice creams out there, the simplest of all got the winning nods
