The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga built a large lead and held on to defeat Mississippi Valley State 82-60 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Ricky Taylor set a career high with 22 points, and senior Ty Patterson added 16 points in his season debut.
But Patterson left left the game with 5:40 to play after injuring his left wrist. Patterson drove to the basket, left his feet and fell hard on his left side.
Shannon Behling led MVSU (1-8) with 20 points and Ricky Lamb added 15.
The Mocs (5-4) built their lead to 26 points, but the Delta Devils trimmed it to 12 points with five minutes to play. UTC responded with an 11-2 run to provide a comfortable margin in the end.
